Here the Driver is already on the Platform waiting for his duty, for his train.
This Driver is well before his starting time of duty. He point out to signs and signals on the train and on the platform to confirm that the correct signals and signs are noted.
Great way to making sure the right actions for highest standard of safety and security of the train and passengers.

This train must have been running for several months or perhaps years but it looks like it just came in from the factory. The train drivers are dressed like pilots, the discipline and the seriousness of the cleaning staff is incredible. Japan is totally unique and unparalleled with punctuality, cleanliness and work ethic.

Although I'm pretty sure people in japan get passes for work commuting etc. And tourists can buy JR passes which cost a fair amount, but allow you unlimited use of all JR(japan rail) trains including the shinkansen

Did it with JR Pass. Nagoya-Osaka, Osaka-Tokyo and many other routes. It was so quiet and comfortable I don't even remember much. That's how it should be - uneventful.

Japanese Railway is world renowned for their service, timekeeping, cleanliness and the Shinkansen which is one of the fastest trains in the world but in my opinion the best looking. I absolutely love the Shinkansen and hope to travel on it one day. I absolutely love Japan and I am so pleased that they are our friends and Allies. I was in Japan during this years cherry blossom season, I love how the train conductors bowed every time a train arrived. Also the train staff always bowed once they leave each carriage, very courteous. It always blows me away when each train arrived on the second every time a train arrived of every day.

Japan has big problems when it comes to society, a high suicide rate within the youth and the pressure on people is pretty big. Only real problem is see is the massive overworking culture. It's one of, if not the main reason why suicide is crazy high. People work their ass off just to live in a tiny pod, or apartment if they're lucky and struggle to move up, even if they want to. Yeah I'd like to visit Japan. That discipline and organized schedule is why Japan is the best country for customer service. Everyone is on time and prompt. I spent two months in japan, near takasago and I would take the train from there to shibuya and abiko. Not once the train was late. If it says it’ll arrive at 7pm and leave at 7:010pm it’ll arrive at 7pm and leave at 7:01pm.

Great video! Thanks for posting this! Technically, the train stops for 12 mins, 5 mins for boarding and alighting passengers, 7 mins to clean all 16 cars by the super efficient cleaning crew (seen in the video) The driver is reporting for duty not exactly a change of drivers, since technically, the female employee is not a driver but a conductor, as the train switches direction at Tokyo station for the Tokaido/ Sanyo Shinkansen Nevertheless great video! :)

My company sent me to work in Japan in 1974.( Kawasaki heavy industries ) I know its a long time ago but I still remember thinking that industrial practices in Europe are so behind the Japanese. I did enjoy my stay there and the social life. I did make a point of using the rail system but in the 70's there was virtually no signs in another language. Got lost a few times getting off at the wrong stations. Staff always sorted out the crazy English guy and pointed him in the right direction.

I'm from the Philippines. And I will always, always, always look up to Japan and the Japanese people. I love how disciplined they are. When I first visited and stayed in Japan, I kinda adapted their traits and until now I practice them, specially the discipline. I hope when my people see how discipline I am, they will somehow imitate me, so my country will also progress. My country lacks discipline. This is the product of too much democracy. People aren't afraid of the laws.

We travelled on this train a number of times and it was always spotless, on time, and the staff immaculate. I believe the year I was there, the cumulative amount of lateness over the whole system for that year was 20minutes!!!. In this country (UK), we are happy if the train we are on is 20 minutes late. Where did we go wrong!!??

Every train service in Japan is like this, not just the Shinkansen! Watching the advertisements being changed is fascinating! They jump on and change the whole train in about three minutes.

It's very safe because there is an automatic earthquake detection system(called UrEDAS) and obstacle detection system, which automatically stops before the seismic waves reach. They are fully equipped with the whole Shinkansen system, and it is famous that there have been zero deaths since its opening.

What's really nuts is when you're on the platform of a local Shinkansen station, and an express train passes through the station at top speed! It goes by so fast, you barely have time to see it arrive before it's already whizzing past you!
