Thanks for the great video and detailed explanation. I recently took my Discovery 5 to Walmart for an oil change, and two issues came up: Oil Capacity Confusion: There seem to be two engine categories for the V6-one is 2993 cc, and the other is 2995 cc. Could you clarify the exact amount of oil needed for each? No Dipstick for Oil Check: I couldn’t locate an oil level checker in the engine, and it seems most Walmart technicians are unfamiliar with this setup. Without a traditional dipstick, how can I ensure that the oil was topped up to the correct volume? Thanks in advance for your guidance!

I use the bg additive on both the d5 and our lr4 5.0. At 165k still on the original timing chains with no noise. I do change oil every 7.5k miles. I went with castoroil on the d5 since that is what was recommended by LR.

That’s awesome! Planning on doing the same. Engine runs smooth with your oil and additive combo?
@dtcollins Жыл бұрын
Yes it does. One thing I have been impressed with is how smooth has been in the time we have had the d5.

No more D5?

Seeing this excellent video 10 months after, but have a question. Once collected; what do you do with the canister of old oil? Take it to a gas station for disposal?
@dtcollins10 ай бұрын
Most local part places (in the US like AutoZone, OReilys, etc) and even Walmart will take the used oil. We are limited to 5 gallons a month here (Texas) for recycling. Not an issue for most home mechanics.

Engine cover looks tight on mine, can U make a video how to take the cover off?

Hi Bro , nice video. Thanks for sharing. I would like to know the extractor pipe adapter size, or where to get one . 😊😊

Good seeing you at SCARR. Sorry I missed this. Both the harbor freight and the MityVac come with a rubber adapter to fit the drain tube to the extractor pipe. No issues with either extraction pump but I did notice the HF one became less pliable over time and was harder to fit.

Planning to get a disco 5. but heard all the bad story related to reliability> want to hear your input as an owner. any issue you encounter? are they major etc much Thanks

I actually liked the functionality of the D5 as a family hauler/tow vehicle for our RV. Much more comfortable on a long trip over our LR4 with the 5.0. Off roading it was impressive as to what it could do. As a long term vehicle (I typically keep my rovers around a while), i have my doubts. I am actually looking at replacing the D5 with a Defender 130 right now and just waiting to see a 2025 in person and decide on which engine I want. If we do I am looking forward to that build out.

How’s the engine running with castrol edge full synthetic and the additive? I’m about to change my whine oil and wanted to check with you first. Thanks in advance!
@biz4twobiz463 Жыл бұрын
You should run Liqui Moly oil. They have a SPECIFIC Land Rover engine oil. It really is high quality.

No issue with running this oil and MOA. I have run MOA in my d1, d2, freelancer, eloquent, and D4 over the years with good results.
@choloplata3 ай бұрын
@@dtcollinsso you’re putting this MOA additive and the required amount quarts of oil? (No less)? The FB blogs on D5 are all skeptical about additives to the oild, but in other vehicles its been fine, son I’m going to go for it

On oil changes i fill until it shows full via the oil check in the menu on the instrument cluster. Yes slightly less is needed but not by much. I have run MOA in my d1, d2, LR4, evoque, and D5 with no issues. I never ran it with my old Freelander as that blasted thing was back at the dealership every every 3 weeks. Our LR4 with the 5.0 is at 150k miles now on the original timing chains with a 5k mile oil change interval. That is the reason I decided to use it as well on my D5.

how much oil did you add? just 5 quarts?
@dtcollins Жыл бұрын
For the 3.0 SCV6 in the video, it needs 8.5 quarts (8 liters) when a complete oil and filter change is done.
@robertbondsjr.32116 ай бұрын
How many quarts of oil does it take?
@dtcollins6 ай бұрын
8 but plan on checking the level as you fill up on the display menu inside the vehicle.

do you need to use an extractor or is there a plug buried under the skid plate? cheers
@dtcollins Жыл бұрын
For easy use the extractor, but there is a drain plug underneath the plate
@hoppy8994 Жыл бұрын
@@dtcollins Appreciate it. Yes i did eventually find it after removing the large skid plate. the dealer said there was no plug and required an extractor and was going to charge $600 CND$ to do an oil change. Total Rip Off Artists
