Chris is such a blessing; he has the knowledge and talent but also knows how to teach: a rare combination.

This is a terrific video and I can relate to all the beginner mistakes you talked about. I live in New Hampshire and very much want to paint the beautiful trees around me, yet am typically frustrated that I can’t convey what I see. I really appreciate your comment about how photos just cannot capture the beauty; so very true! Thank you !

You're a great art teacher. Amazing at making painting seem less intimidating and at encouraging us to actually sit down and paint. You give us much more useful information for free than my teachers ever have at a paid course. Though I don't actually oil paint and use your tips for painting with other media, especially acrylic paint which is somewhat similar. I've only tried oil painting over a decade ago, in middle school art club, once or twice. I didn't really appreciate the process or the results as I mostly remember the unpleasant smell of turpentine and how hard the brushes were to clean. But now I'd love to try again, hopefully someday I will. This video helped me paint my first landscape in a while and the trees in the background turned out really good thanks to you.

Excellent video! I loved how you pointed out mistakes which I do and I had to laugh. I sit down to paint and I try to incorporate what you recommend and it just doesn’t happen and turns into a mess. I am a self taught beginner and I am frustrated because I am trying to take my painting to the next level beyond just filling in colors. My brain feels stuck. I am amazed at how you see shapes so easily and then know the correct color to put down and it seems to come together so well. Simplifying a photo and making a painting interesting is amazing. I am not sure how to practice to start making the process click in my brain. Thank you for your well done videos!

How about masses of leafless trees with a spider web of branches that in photo is mostly silhouetted? On a small 8x8 canvas I can't get the the impression of this form right, I can't seem to get the hair width suggestion of these branches in the distance.

uh,...at 07:10 where you just drink from that can - I mean if you're going to splice in a second or two of a seemingly unrelated action - could you instead call a "time out" first, and then imbibe (a time out clock at the bottom of the screen would be nice - I guess you could throw a flag then call a time out)...sorry, but just like in painting, I'm looking for a little more continuity of theme in your "moving" picture as well (videos). Thank you paint coach in advance for understanding how jarring the discontinuity can be for some of your more sensitive viewers (I think I might have to get a service cat). I'm going out to paint one for the gipper right now.
