Hi. Standing? I had knee issues for long time and had double knee replacement last year. I’ve been sitting for years. Like you’re channel. But “there are lot of ways to go about painting. Don’t get caught up in a style. .,,,,.not understanding the orocess or how others….” “To thine own self be true” just saying Coach. I don’t see many teachers showing the neuances of temperature contrast incorporated into their standard palette, to turn edges. Even those that set up warm and cool colors don’t show this principal……..it’s a higher level skill out of the radar.

I comment as a satisfied customer having purchased Chris' online landscape painting course last year. This video was great for me as I evaluated my latest painting while following along. It's a painting that I really do like and I can see now how it would be even better. THANKS!

I really appreciate how clearly you explain the thought process. As a beginning painter, I did not realize how much analysis goes into deciding what to include, or even that there was a decision. I thought you just painted what you saw. Now I analyze the paintings that I see to figure out what choices they made and why it works. Thank you for these insights!

This is so helpful!! Thanks Chris🙏 I live in Yorkshire UK and its often cloudy and overcast 😏 but I still want to go out and paint! Any tips how to find a good composition when its a cloudy gray day? ☁️☁️☁️

Very insightful. Practicing in grayscale (even with graphite, or charcoal) can help improve your composition immensely.

Thank you, Chris I have learned so much from your videos. You are so easy to understand. My question is about moving from beginner to intermediate. I feel like I have so much to learn but watching videos for beginners keeps me at that level. Do you have videos to help move beyond the very basics?

It’s funny bc the more advanced I get the more I look to the fundamentals. Drawing, composition, value, edges, and color

So would you think about portraits in the same light ? ‘No pun intended’ when you said we should know what’s more dominant. The light, halftones, or the darks.

How do you know which colors to pick to achieve a certain value? Because if I want to achieve a dark value to have a good contrast... the value contrast between a blue and a yellow is insanely wide apart. And the same can be said for all the other colors. They all seem to have different values.

Suiperb explanation and demonstration. Its especially good timing as I've been in Italy for 3 months, and have a few Venetian scenes to paint myself, and landscapes as well. Even taking the photos, I felt some apprehension about starting to paint one, but this demo gives a reminder of how to start, and simplify, scenes that are so filled with details. Many thanks.

Roughing out the entire painting loose is something very helpful I learned from your videos. Small details often also work simple and loose.

Hi. The most distant trees seems too aggressive in violet color, it's not as much as violet, but blue with reds and for me it destroys the depth. Sure painting colors has to compliment each other, because of the reds in first distance, but at least it has to leave warm relationship to cold color to give the depth. Your strategy is good, but it seems that the whole painting is a little bit too warm.

Mr paint coach, what do you think about water mixable oil paint when starting out with oils? i’ve been using acrylic paint for years and i know all of the techniques when using it, but now that i want to upgrade to something more, im wondering if buying all these mediums addional to the paint for clean up and technique are worth it. ill still give it a go though lol. you only live once. Also, which mediums work for certain water soluble oil paints? can gamblin gamsol work on for example, winsor & newton, or holbein? im not sure Thank you, coach☺️
