Lynsie, Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing your personal story. I found myself in some of that description. I have had an on and off practice of breath work. I know the benefits. In coming across this talk I have been reintroduced to it. Your calm presence, soft voice and authenticity is welcomed and received. .
@salimr47184 жыл бұрын
Ever since I watched that first video on breathing, I have been bombarded with videos on breathing by Ted. I have watched many of them. Some tell you to breath deeply while others tell you to take short breaths. I don't know how to breath anymore.
@MorriganJade4 жыл бұрын
Basically, too deep causes too much of air in your system (not sure if it's oxygen or the other I forgot the English name of), this might cause more problems than fix them. Too shallow and you're with a lack of breath. It's all about that middle ground where you don't push yourself to breath in. Just breath in, and when you feel tension (non stress kind) exhale again.
@salimr47184 жыл бұрын
@@MorriganJade I have yet to watch one which says to breathe moderately. It is either deep or shallow.
@lynsiemckeown56394 жыл бұрын
Hi Salim. Yes, it can get very confusing. It is always best to find a teacher who can help you with your specific needs because not all techniques are meant for everyone at every point in their lives. A general rule of thumb is to start with a 1:1 ratio of breath. Take deeper breaths that are smooth and even. Don't worry about the volume to start, but more about how even and smooth you can control the breath. If you breathe in for 3 counts, breathe out for 3 counts, then you can work your way up in volume. There are various techniques, but this is the first step that is the foundation for other techniques. You can find a video on my KZbin Channel for Complete Breathing (diaphragmatic breathing) which will walk you through the steps. If you have more questions, drop me a line there.

@junebenson64974 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Lynsie. This brought me back to my mindfulness practice and reminded me how deeply important deep breathing really is. Your "junk drawer" visual really helped me, I understood what you meant by it and how breathing from your gut does bring awareness to things and feelings we don't want to face. I felt that and it brought up times where I was so afraid to do something because I didn't want to waste my time away from playing a game on my phone, that when I pushed through the fear and did the thing anyway I felt a strength come over me. Your talk reminded me to incorporate my mindfulness practice back into my days. I was walking outside while listening to your talk, I walk fast so when you were deep breathing with the audience I was slowing my walk, slowing my breathing and I had to stop so I could get the full benefit of your exercise. I think I stopped at some random person's house, lol. When the exercise was done and I opened my eyes I was staring at a green field with a nice big tree. I had a big smile on my face. It helped me rid my walk of the noise of my thoughts of the future plans I haven't made yet. I will be practicing my mindfulness more today and every day.

YES! I literally want to get up and dance, this makes me so happy to read. The pull of distractions, whether it be the phone, daily chores, etc, is powerful but when you find the determination to step away from them and into something more nurturing and healing you take your power back. Our time is precious. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Life requires pain. There is no free happiness, no free joy, no free pleasure, no free anything except death. There is no happily ever after; there is no place where it all makes sense forever; there is just the present moment right now where it may not always be pleasant--it is often quite unpleasant. Don't let other people tell you what to believe, think or feel--think and feel and believe for yourself. Never get lost again in the doubts and ideas of others. They led us here--our parents--and now there is no way out. We're forced to deal with being here, and I can't just quit, because it's bigger than just me. We make the unfortunate circumstance we try and crawl out of simply through awareness-existing. Let's stop.
