Another good option as punish counter is StHK>hellstab>OD Borsht Dynamite... you'll spend 2 drive bars, but it's 4100 dmg tho. Great video as always man!

If you have punish counter from jumping headbutt, at the lowest point you can drive rush St. HK afterwards for extra damage

I tested, and you do less damage. More than j.headbutt, but the timing is not worth it. 3360 is still pretty good for j.hp. Good catch though.

@@THE_REEEE_KING you are considering CA damage. The difference in damage is around 18 points. You do end up in burnout with DR 5HK. Interesting combo, though.

@@THE_REEEE_KING I don't think so. I feel it's the highest one I've seen. At least, the practical ones. There are some with strange dropkicks, but I don't think they work at all in a real match. In the next video, I'll put this combo and give you the shoutout. Even though it's specific, I think it can absolutely land you the round.

@@HashTheGrapplerthey didn't buff rashid or bison or akuma of guile or juri. those are the best characters, they did not get buffed. and zangief having a 3.5k damage off a very confirmable vacuuming plus on block button is ridiculous and you cannot argue otherwise. you either get 3.5k damage because of spd or you get clipped for 3.5k damage. with little counterplay and zero reliable counterplay. this is simply unfair and stupid

@@ΚρανίΩ Nobody cares about the damage nerf. The biggest nerf he got was the new hurtbox on startup of Knee. It lost its use in spaced block strings and its use as a counter poke. The nerfs on their own are not that bad. The problem is they buffed Luke, JP and Deejay. All 3 of which were already strong. All 3 of them were already stronger than pre-nerf Zangief.

Square. Most of the people I know that play octo tend to choose qcf characters. I do think it's a matter of preference.

I've been opting to just not spend super meter. With the presence of level 3 alone I can force my opponent to make way more mistakes. I'm just not dealing enough damage to justify cashing out the supers.

I haven't done a MU video in a while. I might do Blanka if more people are interested (cause I have a backlog of chars to cover). The first thing you have to use is sweep to keep him in check if he whiffs. Then, od lariat for the Blanka ball or parry. Wheelkick has a good AA hitbox for his weird rainbow balls. Consider that if you start whiffing your lariat. As for his backfash, your best bet is walking him to the corner and drive rushing with 5mp here and there.

This is my totally casual brain thinking but I don't like it when devs makes a huge character with the biggest muscles and then they give them such mediocre damage. The headbutt scaling nerfs were disappointing

I have a similar take. I think Zangief looks amazing, and his animations convey damage and strength, but that doesn't translate to actual in-game damage. Marisa is better at feeling "strong" than Gief.

@@SiberianLabok both characters have 3 super bars and they're doing a strike/throw mixup, marisa either gets 8k damage or 1200 (2500 but more situational) zangief either does 6k or 4.8k

Not much. I think it has an okei combo in the corner for 2 drives + 1 super meter, but it's not worth it compared to smetana or wheelkick. After parries? It has some good mix ups, but spending the extra drive doesn't sound totally good to me.

I wonder what you think about how punish counter starting with DI fits into this picture. DI ->flying headbutt -> lvl 1 is a unique DI punish with decent drive damage

I didn't add it in this video cause I want to give it more thought in the meter management one. Starting punishes with DI is a great way of taking as much meter as possible from the opponent. Assuming you punish a super or DP with DI, you can easily use 1 drive and super level 2 to take almost all of their drive meter. If you land the DI, I think any route to super 1 is worth it for the oki.

Its wierd how other characters got a Lot more Damage in Combos when Zangief is suppose to be that strong... They just had to nerf his classic damage combo also most people cant even cancell the normal lv2 and 3 super from lariat unless doing it with very specific way cause its very hard to do

At this point I’m dropping the game until Birdie or Mika are released. Capcom told us that they don’t actually care about balance, they just care about retaining the tourists. What other reason do they have to BUFF JP, Deejay and Luke, but nerfed Gief? The nerfs are one thing, but the fact that they buffed characters that were already stronger than Gief, tells me that the balance team, just hates Zangief enjoyers.

I think the extra damage of those 2 extra drive meters is not worth it. You do more with a 5HK, hellstab, od borscht (assuming you want to spend drive).

Nah. This nerf is merely a set-back, but no reason to change. Gief players have new lab work to do for sure, but this is a chance to see gameplay with Gief from a different angle. When Kobayan drops him, then we'll have something to worry about.
