Great video! You explained it way simpler than most and it doesn't watch like a park tool ad. I especially like the concept of the headset just pulling everything in, which is why it doesn't require insane torque and why you shouldn't do the repair on a bike stand.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I tried to teach it in a way that made sense to me when I first learned about headsets! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Love the channel name and profile pic btw! 🐻🤘

I find that the bike stand is still the best to work on it especially starting preload when everything is not yet compressed. Because if you put it on the ground the fork tends to slip out because of the angle. Unless you elevate the rear end. After its done, small adjustments can be done on the ground

I have not had that issue but if that works best for you then I don’t see why not! I usually lean the rear wheel against the wall and lean the front wheel on a stool and everything stays in place. Then when I go to tighten the cap bolt I just grab the fork to make sure everything is snug. Thanks for watching! ✌️

i still have play after tightening.can i remove a spacer to solve this issue?
@NickandKatieMTB2 жыл бұрын
Go to 4:39 in the video and take a look at the height of the steerer tube in relation to the stem and spacers. The steerer always needs to be approximately this much lower so that when the top cap is tightened it can compress everything. So in other words, if the steerer is sticking out above your stem and spacers, you will need another spacer on there. Hope this helps! ✌️

What if the fork is cut so short that there is no room for spacers?
@NickandKatieMTB2 жыл бұрын
Unless you get a new fork with a longer steerer this tip won’t be able to help you change the geometry of your bike. There are other alterations you can do that effect geometry but they depend upon which bike you have. Some things to look into if you have a full suspension would be if your bike has a flip chip or if you can run offset bushings! Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 🤙

There are steerer tube adaptors that can extend your steerer tube

I usually set aside a day for that sacred one eye at a time ritual. I’m pretty sure that’s what that lone eye 👁️ on the pyramid printed on your dollar bill is all about….. May have killed off the population of Easter Island 🗿 too ‼️
