E85 is 85% Ethanol and is totally inappropriate for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Use gasoline with less than 10% Ethanol, if you can find it, and 91 octane or greater. I use top tier gas (no Ethanol if I can find it) and add octane booster if it’s less than 91 octane.

Eye opening information about a part we seldom give thought to. You must have a real connection to your bike to have felt the difference and seek help in this regard. Owners like you are the reason why there are so many 15 and 20 year old Harley Davidsons out there that are in mint condition. The old cliche about us Harley Davidson owners cleaning and working on our bikes more than riding them was probably started because most of them look so good. I love riding my '07 Road King more than cleaning it but I LOVE cleaning it. Metallic white with gold pearl clearcoat and flawless chrome. In the sun she looks radioactive ☢. Your bike is one of those that years from now will look as good as today.

FWIW, E-85 has nothing to do with dirt. Ethanol damages plastic and o-rings. It's just as clean (or not) as regular 92 octane. More likely you got a bad tank of fuel somewhere if you're seeing that much dirt after only a few thousand miles. I avoid gas stations if they are in the process of receiving a fuel delivery. The tank filling process stirs up a lot of crap from the bottom of the storage tanks. The filters in the hose are supposed to catch it but.... The filter shouldn't look that dirty for tens of thousands of miles. The MoCo says they are good for 100k miles but that could be stretching it..
@TheNearlyFamousMrHobby8 ай бұрын
DUDE just did it and world of difference! One more thing to check is fuel pressure and the trick to find out if there are holes in the lines in the tank is right at start up. before you hit the start button look to see if fuel pressure drops if it does ya got a pin hole on one of the inside tank lines...
@waynemichel73655 ай бұрын
You ca get the filter in a double filter and o ring kit for 19 bucks and do it yourself. I changed mine yesterday after 20 k miles and the filter was black but had no dirt in it. One of the easiest self maintenance jibs on the bike and dont fall for that "special tool" garbage either. Cover the tank with a towel and use punch and mallet. No problem.

Ok, this is the first mechnic I see not replace the top plate gasket after removing. I also wondered why he didnt cover the tank with something (cringed when I saw the tank metal inners lay/touch on the leftside of the tank.. That was the after-pump filter. Did you realize there is another take up filter just ahead of the pump itself that also needs replacing? Its about $30 and its at the bottom, and you have to remove the pump to get to it. I agree with most of the others.. go to a cleaner, 93 octane quality gas to reduce problems
@officialmac2 жыл бұрын
How can u put a tank cover over the tank when you are replacing the fuel filter? Second we did not need to replace a top plate gasket this is not one of those old motorcycle you may have seen in a video. We did replace gasket for fuel filter it comes in the kit. Like we’ve said a few time E85 is not the cleanest gas but out performs any gas from a pump that’s why I continue to run. I’ll replace a fuel filter for $30 bucks every year to keep my bike running cooler and not pop a head gasket when the rest of the bikes are over heating!
@ut1004bp2 жыл бұрын
@@officialmacCycle Mechanics know how to cover your tank, but in case you have to school one, one way to do it is take two sheets of paper towels or even cloth, and cut a hole to allow the neck of the tank to stick through and lay it on the top of the tank.. again, You and he forgot about the fuel pump scavenging filter that also gets plugged up just the same.. as far as a cleaner 93 octane fuel vs E85, I think you might be over estimating the seat of the pant of it all.. and really.. are you drag stripping it where 2/10 of a second really matters enough to dump dirty fuel in your tank?

You need to get off the E85 and run good name premium. If you don't ride it regular, add a quality fuel stabilizer like Mercury Quickaire, one ounce to 10 gallons, or half ounce to 5 gallons, no issues. Avoid nasty old gas stations, use stations that move a lot of fuel with newer Gilbarco pumps that use good filters right there at the hose connection that are changed regularly.
