This is a beautiful song...sort of melancholy, too, at the bittersweet feeling of enjoying the moments, but knowing those changes will come. I like Phil's voice, and they both sang great together.😌💜

A dark song with little hope. Though this version belies the sadness of the album's song.

My guitar teacher used this song to teach me finger picking in 1967 and I still play it to this day. Funny thing, I always thought it was a Lightfoot tune and this is my first time hearing the original 🙃

Phil had lost his upper range due to being mugged and strangled and for dead on a beach while in Latin America. Jim Glover’s voice helped to fill in the gaps. A very nice version of Changes.
@davidlenanderАй бұрын
I thought that the mugging was in Africa? In the end he may have lost a note or two of his range, which apparently greatly distressed him, but probably wasn't so noticeable to others. He didn't need Jim to perform, except that he'd broken his hand and that might have impacted his playing, I suppose. But they'd been friends and singing partners since college, as the "Singing Socialists" and "The Sundowners," and Jim & Jean Glover had put him up in their apartment in Greenwich Village when he went to New York, and he'd written back cover notes to one of Jim & Jean's albums--and they'd done more covers of his songs than anyone else.

One of El Paso, Texas’ greatest musical exports. Wish more people knew about him. Amazing music.
Have you heard his recordings from the 60s with Jim & Jean? I LOVE those records. And he has several solo records, too, though I've only managed to obtain one via iTunes, I think.

Stop worrying about Trump and worry more about a Leftist Marxist takeout. I am not Rep or Dem but the nation is so divided by the Liberal Media. What did Trump do that was so bad during his presidential years other than say the election was fraudulent and it was but not so much in the way Trump communicated .. he is such a bad communicator. Dozens of huge lies and prosecution from the .. you know I can't use that word because it is censored on here though "Rightist" is not. Both sides are dangerous and obviously censorship or media rule by one party.

Considering he’d had vocal cord trauma, he sounds like he did in the mid 60s recordings, to my ear… I always liked Phil’s voice… the harmony is a neat change…
@orbison4 ай бұрын
@4508bluesky I was just wondering if this was around the time he got assaulted and his vocal cords were damaged. I know it was shortly before his death. You can hear it in his 1975 performance (here on YT) to mark the end of the Vietnam War. His voice sounds bad even when he sings The War is Over in a lower key.
