the probem is that the wire colours used by manufacturers are non standard, despite standards being published. So for instance my Bailey caravan has different wire colours from the Maypole chart shown here. Some the same, but four different. So my advice if you're needing to change a plug is to take a photo, note where the keyway is and ensure you know the wire positions before disconnecting. If as in my case many wires are disconnected because of damage, you're stuffed - even my Bailey dealer didn't know the wires were different.

Can you swap out a 7 pin on a trailer to wire straight into a new 13 pin

What about pin 9 being live! 12v from caravan battery. Need to disconnect battery first?

Very good point. I forgot the mention that. The battery on this trailer doesn’t actually connect to the trailer socket, it only gets charged from the mains hookup system.
