I just started a job as a commercial tire service tech this week. I was somewhat familiar about what a drop center is, but I watched some of your videos this past weekend and really paid attention to the tips you give. When you mentioned to know which bead to break first you said "the side of rim that is most narrow to the drop center." I engrained that in my head, and when they asked me about what a drop center is at work and which side to break first... they were already impressed when I knew! Thank you man!

Big credit for making it look easy , dude looks strong as f for one thing but I have to say there is a big difference in how tight a brand new 19.5 is versus a completely bald worn in loose 19.5. So for those watching that are getting down on themselves for how much easier this might look compared to your efforts, don’t. Keep at it.

Great upload… my grandfather taught me this, I’ve changed a lot of tires in his garage by hand!

small truck tires and passenger tires i have changed with the wrong tools myself when i was younger. Never knew those big truck tires were that easy to change. Thanks for the informational video

I have changed my tyres fo years and I only use levers I have expensive levers I have bought and some I have made and modified myself and the ones I have made I’m more comfortable with than the ones I bought conider a lot of my tyre fitting is on the side of the road in the Australian desert where you could change a couple of pallets of tyres to do a run hence why I use soap 2 levers and a hammer to get the job done the system works for you good job mate

I see what I've doing wrong all this time! I've been trying to use a tire machine, when all the time all I needed was a crowbar and a spoon!

It takes tough people to do tires manually like that.its tougher then you did it if you do not do it everyday because it's a special technique.

Spring leafs from a boat trailer or similar spring make good tire tools you can even weld on an extension if you want.

looks like you got your money's worth out of that one. Maybe the quote of the year. "Maybe if you are younger it is easier." man that is the truth I enjoy your videos. You planning another of those one day rat rod builds again? I thought that looked real fun

Hey Jonathan, how does one tell what direction to put on a used tire? Does it matter? Hell you made it look easy, even with your "wrong" tools. Stay safe man.

I remember watching the tire guy wrestling those all day You don't balance then right? The shop had a balancer for 19.5s but they never did it. Factory they were balanced. Did the price come down on 19.5s, Those things were close to 500 a piece for non chinese tires. The cheap place I worked for always put the Chinese shakers on that blew up in no time.
@jonathanw4942
@jonathanw4942 8 жыл бұрын
I don't balance unless I feel a shake or vibration. Then I static balance on the truck, I may show that some time. Only the front, never done the back. I can get the china tires for $150 and a Goodyear for $300. I have been real lucky to get used Michelin and Goodyears. The county run them on their Ambulance's and change them if there is a scratch.

Bruh.. I started my shift at 3pm, supposed to get off at 11pm. We get a road service at 6pm an hour away and I was there from 8-3am dealing with something you made look so simple..... took me 4 tire bars to even mount it on the rim.
@MissouriOldTimer
@MissouriOldTimer 8 жыл бұрын
that looks a lot easier than these little lawn mower tires,, I haven't found an easy way to change them yet,, and new 12" trailer tires shipped from China are so scrunched together, they are very hard to even get inflated once you get them on the rims..

It was holding air, but it cost me some body work, a parking light and a headlight bezel when the tread decided to jump ship.

When he first stood it up and zoomed in, I went "Yikes - hope that was a drive and not a steer." But no such luck, if it cost you a parking light and a headlight bezel. Lol

Xln't job Jonathan. However, if I might add, be way careful when inflating those bad boys. I had a friend that didn't put a truck tire in a steel cage. It exploded and killed him. He worked for Firestone and had 30 years experience in changing tires. Tires don't respect experience.

i think the dangerous ones were the older split rim style. bust yeah still not a bad idea. when i was 15 working on my first mine site in the west aus Goldfields a mech fitter changed an old forklift tyre, the safety ring wasnt the best. anywho, he gave it to me to inflate. being green and lazy i sat on it whilst pumping. all good. but after we fit the rim to fork lift i drove it across the workshop yard and BANG, BLEW THE SAFETY RING OFF never to be found. lol. i aged 15 yrs more that day.

lethal0lee Yes, I think you're right. It was the ring that decapitated him. I'm happy to hear you got lucky. Better to clock in at work at 15 years old and clock out at 30 years old than to have one's life permanently clocked out. Be safe guys.

@jonathanw4942
@jonathanw4942 8 жыл бұрын
Not as easy to change, but on a rollback you need the truck as low as possible so the bed loading angle is low for these new cars. I prefer a 22.5, but would set these trucks way to high and a 16 inch tire won't hold the loads.

Try that on a 17.5. Primarily used on alot of drop decks you will work your ass off
