Piece of cake! I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with the alternator right on top just like this one. The easiest alternator I've ever done. Start to finish within an hour altogether. A shop wanted nearly $500 to do this ( LABOR ONLY) since I already had a replacement alternator. What a joke! I did myself and saved almost $500. A tip here: just the top hose of the reservoir I had to disconnect and loosen the reservoir so it would have a little play/jiggle so I could get that long alternator bolt out.

I'm getting ready to do this. We have a 2001 Taurus with less than 70,000 miles on it. Bought it from the original owner, an old man who literally drove it to church. He stayed up on ALL the dealership maintenance and then some down to the most minute detail.. It was always parked in the garage and actually looks brand new! So proud of the unbelievably great deal we got on that car...

I am not familiar with any auto repairing but I watched this video on changing an alternator. Very helpful and clear on instructions of how to. I am a woman, also in my mid 60's. ..not boring..the editing software is Great!! it's like being there in the rain with ya!!..i like the bungee cord trick..if you take a piece of cardboard and slide under the vehicle when you work on top and drop something most times it will land on the cardboard and you don't have to crawl under. slide out/ slide under that is if it doesn't get lodged somewhere else...

I was going to change the power steering pump on a 2000 Mercury sable. I started to use a 15mm socket with a breaker bar and the bolt snapped off! Now I'm going to have to get a mechanic to extract the bolt and put on a new tension pully. What a pain!

I had to change my tentioner and idler pulley and I the belt fell off the pulleys and I had to run to autozone and get a routing diagram to be able to put the belt on correctly.. I wish I would have used your bungee cord trick lol. It would have saved me alot of unnecessary problems. Thanks for the clever idea sir. 😁

i just did my alternator 1996 taurus very similar. I did take off the coolant resoirvoir tank first. I tried the wrench trick on the tensioner pulley wheel, but couldn't get it to work. I just detached the alternator and was able to slip the belt off the smooth pulley wheel (right below and left of the alternator pulley wheel) and it came off okay. I used a rope to tie the serpentine up instead of a bungie cord, thanks for the tip! I fought it the first time trying to get the belt to come off of the alternator first, which is much harder and I almost gave up before watching some videos and giving it a second try. thanks for posting.

Thanks for a great video on this subject. I hadn't done an alternator in 30 years or so, so was a little rusty. I think the last one was a 64 Ford Fairlane. The belt was a lot simpler :). The bungee cord trick was great.

Thank you. I did this a couple years ago and I completely forgot if it was a 15 mm wrench that goes on the tensioner. The rest of it was review, and yeah exact same problems. My battery died and I bought a brand new battery and it was dead by the next day because the alternator was going out. All the lights on the panel were blinking on and off, and the car was absolutely running like it was going to die in terms of shifting and idle and everything. Now that I have the alternator replaced, car seems to be running fine.

That's just like my 2003 SES but on my 2010 SEL the alternator is towards the bottom of the engine.

So I bought my car this year...yes 2020 and its a 2004 Ford T. I love it. Ive had to change the coolant reservoir, and the back lights. The back lights were NEVER changed and they were so bad. But Ive had no issues till I was at work one day and when I went outside to leave the car wouldnt even turn over. I charged the battery but nothing... I figured it was my starter....Im taking my starter by Auto Zone today to have it fixed but if its not the starter or battery it much be the alternator.... The spark plugs seem in great shape at this point I dont know what to do...any ideas

Followed your video, and I had to pull the radiator res simple. I have hams for hands lol, so once that was done it was all straight forward on my daughter 05 tore up. I used wd40 on the res tits and the horse's sludge right on no issues and the 2 bolts were 10mm shallow. Worked out great thanks for your video.
