Seeing the cutting edge when it was off the bucket brought back so many memories of my previous job. I worked for a company called Black Cat Blades here in Edmonton, Canada that manufactured replacement cutting edges for all machinery. I spent many days in the heat treat department tempering and straightening these blades before being painted and shipped out to customers. Good video!

You can't beat a good 'hot wrench' when it comes to removing stubborn bolts. Those reversible cutting edges save money in the long run. Good Job !

Chris. Get a 9" angle grinder and get a cutoff wheel for it. much faster than a torch. I love mine.
@andrewwilson83178 жыл бұрын
There is a tip available for your torch that makes removing bolt heads and nuts so much easier. I believe it comes from the locomotive,boiler or ship building world. It's called a rivet head remover tip and it's readily available and pretty cheap. I picked one up on eBay after being show one and using it on a job. It blows the flame out parallel to the torch rather than at 90 like a cutting tip. There is also very little heat damage to the job. Handiest tip ever!

Chris, You make this so much harder than it needs to be. Rest one end of the blade on the ground and put a middle bolt in first.. So much easier. And if you cut off the excess threads on the new bolts after you crank them down, you kill two birds with one stone. Less material catches on the short bolts when you dump and you can unscrew the nuts the next time because there won't be any buggered up threads the next time.

Any chance you have some swamp work happening anytime soon? The ones you did from about 6 years ago is what got me watching you. I just like seeing the mud and water moving, and you can do videos longer 3-5 minutes now. Thank you for the vids man.

Hi Chris, I sent my son one of your videos a while back. I believe you were changing a backhoe hydraulic cylinder on a Sunday morning and got hydraulic fluid in you hair. You lost it a bit. I explained to my son that this was a real business man. That you had hit life's lottery and were on easy street. I think he got it.

Good thing about oxy AC is if you pick up a brazing attachment and brazing powders you can harden the cutting edge on topside so the bottom wears and self sharpens

That looks pretty good. If you ever don't know what to make a video about could you do one on the weird things you've dug up in all the years you've been running equipment? I don't think you've done one already to my knowledge.

Turn your oxygen to the tune of fine blue points. Lower your fuel setting on the regulator to about 15 and set the oxygen to about 40-45. Turn on the fuel to a smokeless flame and set the oxygen to blue points on the tip. Use the oxygen lever to blow melted material away from the cut. Hard to explain but easy to show. Check out other welder channels.

if you get in a situation where you can't prop one end up, run a piece of rope (550 cord or even zip ties) through the bolt hole and you can cinch it right up. if the rope is too small to tie an easy knot that won't just slide through, tie it around one of the bolts you haven't used yet.

You should cut the thread down once you've gunned them up then heat it up and hit it hard with the hammer stops em coming loose and dirt getting between bucket and blade 💪💪

Would it better when you first put it together to cut the bolt to the same height as the nut? The threads would be protected ...

Looks like you haven't use torch much.. More oxygen, the core of the flame should be closer to nozzle. You heat the part until it starts to melt and then apply the trigger. Yeah, I'm no pro either.. Great videos! Really enjoy your channel.

When I find myself faced with a layer of rust (which is very often...) I often reach for the torch and just heat it up. The rust will jump right off. Just don't try this with fuel tanks. Trust me.

This one was originally bolted IIRC, but I think the previous owners were just lazy and welded it. It's about worn out, so I guess I'd like to do it right when I replace it, but maybe not.

For easier cutting, use less gas, go quicker, and keep a cleaner tip.. start on the top edge of the nut.. in line with the flat.. peal the side of the nut off, then go to the opposite side and peal the flat off that side.. get them all pealed, and then take a hammer and punch and pop the nuts off.. it will save toes too...set the edge up on saw horses and bring the bucket to it.. hold just above (you are an operator).. then put your new bolts in....easy peasy...

man you put the blade on the hard way. you could just just set the bucket so its flat and just a foot off the ground then set the blade under the bucket on a bottle jack, then jack it up till its pushing tight against the bucket then bolt it up.
