This was great. Just realized my new plastic spool ribbon holder isn't compatible the knobs that hold the spools in place. This is EXACTLY what I needed, and bonus, my typewriter is an old Olivetti, Thank you!

Do you need to have specific ribbon for the lettera 22? Like be careful about a special size, brand or anything? Sorry, I don't know much about typewriters yet, but want to acquire one and I don't know if ribbons are just universal or not :) The video is great and explains well by the way!

Most importantly for a Lettera 22 (and 32), you will need a ribbon with metal eyelets at each end - the metal eyelets are what triggers the ribbon reverse system. You do not need to be too careful about size, as ribbons with eyelets will most likely be the correct width for a Lettera 22. Brand is not that important, as long as ribbon is not under or over-inked. Some ribbon providers are better than others, so depending on your location you might want to experiment with getting a ribbon from two different vendors (probably online) so you can compare quality. You can also try nylon ribbons (most common), cotton ribbons, and silk ribbons to see which one you prefer (cotton and silk ribbons are usually more expensive). Hope that helps!

Why don't you buy an Olivetti ribbon on Olivetti spools ?

You could do that, but there is not much point if you already have the original metal Olivetti spools. In most typewriter shops, Olivetti spools without a ribbon are usually twice if not three times as expensive as replacement Olivetti ribbons on plastic spools. As the original Olivetti spools are usually sold without a ribbon installed, you would have to wind on a new ribbon from plastic spools anyway.
