Changing an Autodesk Inventor Assembly from Y-UP to Z-UP

There are many situations where users need to re-orient a design so that the Z axis is the upwards direction. In this tech tip we demonstrate the process of converting an Inventor assembly from the default Y-UP orientation to Z-UP.

I was expecting to be shown how to reset or adjust the YZ +X axis. Not create a new ASSY for one. Is there a method for adjusting this within the current ASSY?

"Creating the Z-up Template is not very difficult to do". "We are going to assume you have an Assembly Template with the Z-up." Argh - that was the only part I needed. ha ha ha. Big assumption leaves a hole in your presentation. But nice job on the rest.

What if the assembly plane is 45° to your plane that you want to use? Impossible?!

How to setup template with Z in upward direction?

Start a new file, (Part or Assembly), then click on the applicable View Cube face on the top right corner of the screen to orient the blank Part/Assembly to the way you want it to be facing top down. Click the view cube's drop-down menu and select "Set as Top". Do the same to orient your "home" position, either with the view cube corner or another custom position. Drop-down -> set as Home. Save As Template. (maybe I should make a 10 minute video to explain this?)
