Thank you. I am still confused on how to continue with a project and how to copy a project to open it up on another machine. What to do if the other machine is loaded with a different version of inventor?

Project files are all about mapping out locations where important information is kept. It points out where your designs are (Workspace), where templates and styles are kept (Folder Options), etc. If you are moving a project from one computer to another, you will need to copy all the necessary folders of information from the original machine to the new machine. If the new paths are different, you just need to edit the project file so the path are updated to the paths on the new PC. If you don't need the entire project, but just one design (assemblies, parts, and drawings), Inventor has a tool called Pack and Go, that will allow you to pick the top-level drawing or assembly and it will collect in a folder all the necessary files for that drawing or assembly. If you are working on two different machines that have different versions of Inventor, there isn't a save back feature in Inventor. Once Inventor migrates a file up from an old version, there isn't a way to revert back to the previous version. The best way to work in a situation like this would be to use a STEP file or another generic format to go between versions of Inventor. Hope this helps.

Do you have a video on exporting files to a new project and folder and reusing those files? i do everything manually now.

Sorry, I don't have a video like that. I do have one for Inventor's Design Assistant, which might help you. Design Assistant allows you to copy an assembly and/or drawing, during the process it will let you decide which files should be reused or copy with the assembly. If you are talking about exporting for use with a different Inventor IPJ file, I just use windows to move the files to the workspace for the new project file. Occasionally, assemblies try to pull their parts from the original location. You can fix that by using the Replace command. Another way to solve that is to alter the path to the original workspace and open the assembly again. Since Inventor will not be able to find the files in their original location because the path has changed, Inventor will give you the Resolve Reference dialog and you can pick the files from the new location. That typically fixes the issue. If you use this approach, don't forget to correct the original path after you tricked Inventor to resolve the parts to the new location. Hope this helps.

I made this video so long ago, that I can't repost it with the magnification. However, I can post an image of some of the settings for one of my current projects. You can find it at this link. drive.autodesk.com/preview/de29c8fc2/s/SH919a0QTf3c32634dcf95a075d53f230a3b For this project, I am trying to put as many paths on my D drive. My C drive is a smaller SSD drive and is almost full. So I want to keep as many files off that drive as possible. The most important information in this video is to understand the pathing because those will be different for everyone.

where to save iLogic files?
@3DSteve52
@3DSteve52 5 жыл бұрын
The iLogic Rule files really can go anywhere on the local PC or network, as long as that location is identified in the iLogic settings. However, I have added a folder named "External iLogic Rules" under Inventor Support. I feel this keeps everything a little more organized.
