This is a follow up for our video about the IKEA SUNDVIK Crib - • Assembling an IKEA SUN...
Alex asked how to adjust the height of the mattress, so we thought it would be good to do a demonstration video. While we are at it, let's do a review of the Sundvik now that we've been using it for 3 months as well.
Any questions? Please leave a comment.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah the back thing is big. Once you strain your back you realize just how much you use your back muscles for lifting your kid, not just into the crib but also into the high chair, bath tub, etc, etc. PS - I made a second video that's more generically aimed at all IKEA cribs (since they're almost the same design wise). kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHndnX5_j7ZknMU

@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 3 жыл бұрын
If you are removing the side, you can change the height at the same time. (or vice versa, if you're changing the height, you could switch to the version w/ the side off. but obviously that depends on your kid. we lowered the height pretty early (by the time our kid could lift himself up onto his feet, ~6-7 months). We didn't remove the side to a 'walk in bed' until he was like almost 3.

Hi, this is good to know that it is strong enough given it holds the bed of 4 screws. We were planning to make this crib as a co-sleeper and wanted to know the two bed heights that this crib offers (including the regular mattress). Hope you still have this or someone can reply with measurements. Thanks.
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
I just checked, the top of the plank is about 22cm and 42cm in the two positions. you need to add the height of the mattress to that of course to figure out the bed height. I think drilling new holes for the plank wouldn't be that hard if you wanted to make a custom height. But since you are removing one of the sides of the crib, you need to double check how the beam that replaces the side slats fits with the new bed height (is there a gap, etc).

Hi would like your opinion please. I’m not very tall and thinking the higher position is still a bit deep. Do you think we can move it up a bit more If we drill holes ourselves? Thanks!
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, its probably not that hard to make new positions with a few drill holes. The problem is your kid is going to outgrow the crib that much sooner. Even at 24 months, our baby is able to climb up the side of the crib if he really wanted to. Another option would be to get a step stool to stand on (a very stable one), or cut the legs shorter if your height is a problem.

@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
I actually did this when we moved recently, we tried switching to the one side version. Basically if the crib is already assembled, you can just loosen the 4 hex bolts on one end. on the side you want to remove, take those all the way out. and remove that side's bolts from the other side too, and take the side piece out. then put the single plank that replaces it into place. Its kind of hard to explain via text. I'll have to do a video on this soon! thanks!

Do I need the conversion kit that is comes with, to convert it in to a toddler bed?
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
The bed comes with an alternate plank to go along the bottom on the side you want to remove the "side fence". You need to use that plank along with the screws and nut sleeves that you just removed from the side fence.

Please I need answer Can I remove the side when it's one the upper level so I can put the crib beside my bed or I have to put it in lower level to be able to remove the side
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
If you put it next to your bed, you need to check if the crib mattress height matches the bed height. You can put the bed plank in the upper position when the side is removed, but there will be a gap between the bed plank and the side piece, so it could be dangerous if your baby fell down in that gap. And more importantly, you need to secure this crib directly to the bed so there's no chance the two could become separated and the baby fall down between them (could get crushed or suffocate in bedding). Either with screws or straps to make sure they don't separate. I would avoid this kind of modification unless you are VERY careful to do it safely.

Which position is better for a 7 month baby? The lower or the higher?
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
+Khaled Elgendy I just recently had to move it back down for our son who was a little over 8 months at that time. The key issue is can your baby stand up yet? Our son got to the point where he could pull himself up to standing by pulling on the crib bars. At the higher position, that means he can potentially fall out over the top of the crib. Unfortunately the crib is a lot more difficult to use when the bed is low. Takes a lot more back muscle to get the kid in and out. Be careful to avoid straining your back.
@khaledelgendy7946
@khaledelgendy7946 6 жыл бұрын
I think we will keep it at the lower level and put something underneath the mattress to elevate as a interim solution.we know our baby is so active and I believe the higher level is not going work for her in a couple of weeks or in a month time.
@sgtigereye
@sgtigereye 2 жыл бұрын
Anyone know how old the baby is before you lower it? At what age point do you translation it?
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 2 жыл бұрын
I lowered it after my kid could pull himself up to standing while in the crib. (I felt like at that point he could quickly figure out how to climb over the side...) So around 7-9 months, depending on when the kid starts crawling and standing.

Hey..!! Hello Can we make holls in the back sheet of the crib to adjust it on different height for co sleeping? I am planning to buy gulliver cot from ikea but the upper height is higher than our own bed and lower height is too low. Can you please help me out.
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
+Almas khan sorry for my late reply. Assuming the gulliver has the same design on the bottom board and how it fastens to the side pieces, it's totally possible to drill new holes at a new height that matches your bed. The trickier part is connecting your bed to the cot safely so there's no chance for a gap to form and a hand or foot to get pinched (or worse, the baby could fall out if they separate). You can google some ikea DIY blogs from ppl that have made these types of 'hacks' to ikea cots. I think you could probably put some straps under your mattress that lash the back side of the cot to the far side of the bed. You just need to make sure it stays very tight.
@CluelessDad
@CluelessDad 6 жыл бұрын
PS - you can also buy some dedicated, adjustable cosleeping beds that probably will work. It would be safer than doing something DIY.

yikes! I've heard of kids climbing out of cribs in general, which definitely is a scary thought. My daughter, who is ~15 months now can reach up and she tries to get her leg up over the side, but won't be big enough for that for a while. One option is to put side rails (also sold by ikea) on all the sides to raise up the barrier, but in that case getting the kid in and out will be even harder. I think if your kid can climb out already, either look for another crib or switch to the open side configuration of this w/ a side rail to keep the kid from rolling out in their sleep (they can still climb in and out at will though.... but at least they won't be falling from a height...)
