The way Gabriel was revealed is one of the most brilliant things to ever happen on this show. So clever. He’s such a cool character, he never stops being that trickster despite being an angel.

I get what you mean. But one thing- tricksters aren’t demons, they’re pagan gods. You’ve got tricksters in many different pantheons, and well known examples are Anansi (West Africa), Eris (Ancient Greek) and Loki (Norse). They aren’t demons, they’re gods. It’s why they’re so powerful, and also why they’d be perfect as witness protection for Gabriel. Pagan gods in SPN are really powerful, so hiding as a god of some kind would be perfect for an archangel.

Also, for those who don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy, the “he’s a ghost that lives inside her head” character was a funny inside joke- that ghost was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who also played John Winchester on SPN- it was a bit of a dig at him.

This is one of my favourite episodes of this whole show. And I feel really bad for Gabriel. Richard Speight Jr. is so good at playing him both funny and serious and you can really see the emotions on his face so clearly!

Honestly my fave Bi!Dean moments. Sexy doctors and cowboys make dean all flustered ;) Gabriel (played by Richard speight jr) is amazing at balancing the playful and seriousness of his character. Fun fact, has directed quite a few episodes of supernatural, and was instrumental in creating one of the most iconic episodes and scenes in the entire series. Can’t wait for you to get to that episode! As for what you’re saying about characters being too important, I think I understand what you mean, and for some shows it can be a real problem especially if they don’t wrap up the story arcs for those characters. But I think you should keep in mind: 1. The apocalypse in supernatural has been in the works since lucifer’s fall. So for characters to have huge part in it isn’t too far of a stretch, especially for the angels who have been preparing for the end of days for Millenia. 2. The show has what 10 more seasons after this one so, in order for this show to have been on as long as it did, there’s a lot more storyline to go so they aren’t using up all their cards in one go. Aww im glad you enjoyed it. I definitely overthink these things way too much (hello anxiety) and I think a lot of it comes from shows in the past that have played their cards that way and it just fell flat. But so far im loving what SPN are doing with the characters :D Except for killing all my favourites off of course haha. Im excited to see which iconic episode/scene you are talking about :D:D:D

Some shows tend to do it especially when they’re still trying to find their legs and be renewed for future seasons, and sometimes those shows get renewed but never follow those characters again so it does feel very plot devicey in those contexts. Atleast you can take comfort knowing you started a show that managed to be on the air for almost 2 decades so there’s going to be a lot you gel and don’t gel with. Ask any fan and you’ll get very different interpretations of supernatural from fan to fan! As for the episode I’m talking about, is unfortunately during the last season, so I won’t talk about it as not to spoil anything. But I will say that supernatural trended higher than the US election when it aired so just to put into context how well received this episode was by a large portion of the fandom.

I totally get what you're saying about one-off characters basically coming back TOO often and becoming too important, so they end up losing their charm. I am NOT going to tell you what happens or doesn't happen with Gabriel (NO SPOILERS) but! I will say that, for example, Bobby was only supposed to be in one episode back in season 3 or whatever, which is why he's named after one of the people who works on the show, Robert Singer. It's because they thought he was only going to be in one episode, but then they brought him back later and people loved him so much that he became a semi-regular character. Soooo, sometimes it can be a good thing.

Heya, it's been awhile, great episode for me to return to. I understand where you're coming from with Gabriel though it does need to be kept in mind that originally there wasn't meant to be anymore seasons after this one, so it would've had a different feel when originally aired compared to now as people like us who started watching with so many more seasons beyond the intended arc. Like you, I'm not sure how to word it, but Gabriel's reveal has a different feel and context when taken in account that this was end of series, building towards 'The End! Battle/Climax'; giving background characters a reveal like this in those scenarios has a different impact that we no longer feel as the series was continuely renewed and this arc just became one of many instead the finale. Peoples comments about Cas is a situation of personal taste. After season five every character has a moment of poor writing as the new creative teams and multiple changes in showrunners try to find their way. Cas' character did take a bigger hit imo than some of the others. There's a lot of background mess within SPN's writing and production, how certain cast members were treated within and by fans that end up being reflected in the product that was released. I love Castiel though, he's a good character, and to limit my thoughts on him for the sake of avoiding spoilers, I'll supply you with just this. When God told heaven to love humanity beyond even himself, Castiel was the only one who ever did. He is unconditional love, and lives among the characters on the show that deserved far more respect and better writing than they (the showrunners) ever gave them

You're totally right that if id have watched this thinking it was the final season, that my reaction to the reveal would have been different. I guess that's the struggle of watching things with another r10 seasons to go 🤣 I do love comments from people like yourself though who give me lots of background info on the show and how it affects writing, production etc. Super interesting

I thought the Grey's Anatomy part was neat & the nutcracker & commercial was funny but I really didn't like the goofy beginning or the Knight Rider or Csi part. BTW If you hadn't said it was CSI, I wouldn't have known what they were imitating. I've never seen it. But the speech Gabriel gives at the end, I thought, he is awesome!!! Great actor! I know he, Richard Speight Jr., spends a lot of time behind the camera too. I hope he goes back into witness protection, cuz he is funny! A little Trickster, a little Gabriel, I could live with that. This episode isn't my favorite but I definitely was shocked when it was revealed that the trickster was gabriel the arch angel dean is so right about gabriel he's a coward because he has chosen to run away and hide then pick a side like castiel did
