Will be putting gl4 75w90 in mine because thats what I got. Filler plug is siezed and actually broke my breaker bar haha. will have to see if I can fill it from the engine bay

I just use 10w30 synthetic engine oil. Never had an issue. Also can’t find gl4 anywhere. I use it in my Jeep ax5 and np231 as well.

Can't you fill the trans gear oil through the shifter from the cabin? Just a boot and 4 bolts.

Yes, you can. But it's not the easiest thing to take off a 30 year old boot without ripping it. So I leave it be.

I read that you have to slightly overfill for the 4x4. Saw a guy say he jacks it up a bit in the front in order to get extra in there, then puts the fill plug back on before lowering it. Did you get up getting yours done? Sorry, just saw this question from 5 months ago for some reason.

I put 80-90 gear oil in mine it seems too light changed it just put in 85-140 gl5 see what happens

Actually yeah. Didn’t think an oil would make much of a difference. But it’s extra smooth compared to the old (low) oil and the 1 day of driving the Fram. Worth the extra $60 for sure.

It really is worth it. I only us Redline MT-90 in my nissans. They shift SO SO SO much better. The brass synchros love it.
