Here I borrow the battery from the Dodge van, fill up the bus with gas and move it out of its parking space. I get the oil drain plug off and drain the old oil.

0:04 lights almost remind me of Wayne, Superior and Carpenter combined.

I thought most busses were automatics by the mid 70s. After 1972 the Allison automatic sound became stuck in my head.

I love it, its so clean underneath, here in indiana it would have been rust chips by now, I always like when cars oil pans rust out here! It is a great old bus, seems like it runs really good for sitting so long. Great video!

Reminds me of when we got my buddy's 1977 Nova running after it sat for five years. Good on ya for getting it running again. Looks like the pan plug was overtight. That cat was determined to ride with you in the van and the bus.

@retrochad It was 1984 when the GMC Chassis was redesigned with the flat sided hood. And I think then it was optional as top open or bolted to the bumper and the entire hood opening.

It really has almost no rust at all...it came from Missouri originally before coming to Texas. There is no salt used on the roads here and it almost never snows.

The Dodge van. Red-green anyone

I will not let it sit around very long un-driven anymore now that the oil is changed! It is amazing though how well is starts...once it has fuel in the tank it starts instantly.

You have hands down the BEST bus videos I have ever seen. I'm from central MA and I remember riding on these GMC 4 speeds with the classic "whine" of the Alison at535 transmissions. They had Wayne bodies but the district switched to Thomas buses around 1992. Take care my friend and keep those videos comin'! :-)

@okbridges Yes, the bus chassis continued to use this design until I think 1983 although the truck chassis changed to the more modern style.

The van is actually TBI, a 1989 model. I think this is the first year for TBI. I haven't been able to find out where the exhaust leak is though.

I actually completely repainted it with industrial enamel, safety yellow but it has faded a little over the years.

The cowl design used on the 1973-1991 medium trucks was first used on the bus chassis in mid-1984.

Back in the day memphis city school's were using those exact same buses which were contracted to them around in the mid they had all ward's before the 1978 new buses came along with the turn signal light directly on the bus body

I think the odometer says around 70,000...I would imagine 270,000 but not sure. I don't know why they didn't make more odometers with 6 digits.

Too many vehicles and if you don't use them often enough the fuel will go stale and the whole fuel system gets gummed up. Then you need to drain the tank and clean it and dismantle the carb and clean it. It will be a never ending battle.
