Jason if you think $2000 for pipe is bad…our well costs almost $10,000. We are in middle georgia. They had to go deeper than the 200 feet included in the price. I think they had to go 305’. So we paid for an extra 105 feet.

We had six wells and a creek on our previous property. If you can utilize the spring you will be much better off. We used a solar pump to pump water from the creek to water our cattle. We dug down about 10 feet 50 feet back from the creek and put in a perforated pipe wrapped with screen and never had a problem.

My dad bought an old farm back in the 70's as he couldn't take the city life anymore. It was literally out in the middle of nowhere, but we all loved it there. The happiest days of my life were when we lived in the country. The property had an old windmill and huge stock tank, and the windmill kept it full. There was also an old well with one of those old-fashioned handle pumps and everything still worked. The water definitely tastes different than what most people are used to, but it was good clean water. Anyway, the windmill did pump a lot of water, I don't ever remember the tank being empty and we had a lot of thirsty Angus cows during the summers (East Texas).

Everyone where we live in South Carolina have wells. We have a normal amount of water for our house and have never had a problem. My oldest son built a house across the road from us and when they put in his well, they hit granite almost instantly. But 80’ down they hit an Artinson well and my father was at my house watching. It’s a wonderful memory, because he passed in 1998, but he actually ran across the road, because the water shot at least 30’ into the air. The man running the machine literally jumped off and ran it scared him so. They told my son he could furnish at least 5-6 homes with water. For Mothers Day one year he had the road trenched and water lines put all around my yard that is an acre and attached his under our house in case we ever ran out. With the turn of the switch our house has his water. A wonderful memory ❤

Boy does this video bring back childhood memories. At our farm, our water source was a mountain spring that was about 1/2 mile from the house. It fed into a similar "stream" to yours and into a ram - then up a hill (no idea of the elevation) into a cistern. That fed the sawyer on our sawmill's house and then downhill to our house. Until you showed this video I never had an idea how that all worked and I'm 76 now - and you are still educating me.

It's Always good to have extra water sources on a farm. We run our farm/house completely off well water and we love it. My hubby's grandad had it drilled back in the early 70's and in all those years it has never gone dry. We use it for all of our animals, for our gardens and for our home. Oh, and it tastes SO good. I also own 5 acres, with a small cabin on them, about an hour and a half from where I live. The well there is sulpher water, smells and tastes bad but the garden/yard/animals seem to love it. It Is rough on the plumbing though, corrodes pipes much more quickly that any water I've ever seen. So if you did drill and got water that wasn't drinkable, it's still usable on the farm.

We installed a solar well pump system and you could install one in your spring and pump it up to the pond and all it would cost would be the system, about $1500 plus the pipe. I had a well dug many more than 5 yrs in Mo. We had a lot of sand & had to put a liner in our well. We had our well water tested per our county requirements & our water was good, plus it tasted good. My brother lived about 10 mikes away, & his water was terrible. They had to have a lot of filters & a water softener to be able to drink the water & use it for anything. It cost us a lot less to dig our well than my brother & our water was great. Our kids took flouride tablets for their teeth per our dentist. Check with your county what is required. It would be nice to have a well.

@@AB-ol5uzthere isn’t a filtration system known to man that will filter out really hard water. It will improve it, but your water will still smell like rotten eggs, and you’ll always have some rust issues which is bad for your pipes. I think you need to build swales to slow the water going into the pond like you did in your orchard. Places where you have erosion Brook can make swales to slow the water so it can go into the ground this will also filter the water going into the pound. Also move your ducks to the pond they will help seal the pond with silt like they fill up those blue pools with silt. I am going to send you a link to show you how you can get a contour map off of google. All your water is moving too fast straight to the pond where it evaporates.
