For anticipated freezes... we use tall 'Pop-Up Collapsible Mesh Laundry Hamper', cut out about 1/2 of the bottom in a circle enough to put plant inside. Pull the plant thru it and fill with leaves and mulch, even blankets, to give some protection. We also use heated bricks if the temperatures get down to 20 below zero. Cook house building bricks in a wood fired or propane grill, take grill gloves and place 1 to 3 bricks (depending on how low the temp goes) on the dirt beside the pant. Cover brick and plant with tent covers (we use old polyester blankets that we have kept since the 70s or available at any thrift store). Bricks will emit enough heat for the plants and replace each morning or evening depending on daytime temps.

Thank you for your awesome youtube channels. I watch both of them every morning with my 81 year father. He has dementia. He enjoys watching your channel and sometimes comments on all the animals. We also enjoy your Saturday morning kids channel. It makes my 80s kid heart happy. Brings back great memories of Saturday morning cartoons. I told my husband your channel is right up there with Sesame Street and Mr Rogers. It is great for children and all ages. We are big fans in our house. Thank you for sharing about your farm life. It is truly a blessing.

I found it very interesting. I have a crabapple tree that was smothered by a lilacbush that died my brother pulled it out with his truck. I noticed the poor little tree and in the spring it burst into bloom. I never knew you could make jelly from them always thought they were to tart to eat.

I couldn’t be more excited and happy for you. Your hard work and knowledge made your orchard awesome. Fingers crossed for better weather conditions in the future. Love the praying mantis! Whenever I see one, I always think it is a good omen. 😃 The orchard is looking beautiful! I love fig trees. I used to live in a house with 2 fig trees in the backyard. Lots of figs on the trees every year. We also would get raccoons in the fig trees. They would come at night and we could hear them in the trees. We'd go outside with a flashlight and we'd see bright pairs of eyes staring back at us. It always amused us. There were enough figs for us and the raccoons. Your farm is a little slice of heaven!

It was good to see the fruit orchard. I was so sad when you lost some of the bushes & trees from that frost. I don't remember ever eating muscadines, but my Southern granny born in 1889 told me she used to make muscadine wine! There's a challenge for you, making muscadine wine! I am happy to see the fruit orchard looking so good. I love blackberries, raspberries & strawberries. My Ukrainian grandmother in Canada, grew raspberries by the bushel. I would stand at her bushes as a kid & eat until I would almost be sick. Ukrainians serve fresh raspberries & cream as dessert all of the time, which is my favorite.

I love seeing the orchard!! I'm 70 years old and I remember at about 11 or 12 eating peaches at my grandparents home and throwing the "stones" over the hill behind their house. Today, there are 4 or 5 peach trees that are "wild" and still produce peaches. How about a couple banana trees, just for fun!!!

I love to hear you talk about gardening. I grew up on a farm that had a fruit orchard. It had, pear trees, apple, cherry. We had tons of black raspberries, in the summer us kids had a blast in that orchard. We also, in the yard, we had a mulberry tree. I didn't care for them, way to sweet. My dad complained all the time about that tree because the birds would eat the mulberry then make a purple mess on his truck....😅😅 I live in Michigan 😊❤

My grandparents owned half a city block and I would say 3/4 of that was garden and fruit orchard. My grandpa grew apples, pears, plums, cherries, blackberries, grapes, and more. In the garden, he grew peanuts, strawberries, okra, corn, beans, peas, and so much more that I can't remember. Us cousins would get together, steal the dog's food dish, rinse it out, and go picking. We would get caught and told we were going to be sick if we ate it all. I never remember getting sick from eating all that. It was so good and still warm from the sun.

Seeing the figs brought back such memories for me. I grew up on a small, 10-acre farm in rural SC. We had 1 huge fig tree beside our house that would fill a room and you could pick figs off the top off the tree from a 2nd floor window. Crazy, right? I don't know what kind of fig it was, but it grew so big that my dad would cut it completely back about every 7 years. But my fondest memory is of my dog, Tasha, picking ripe figs for herself from the bottom branches. She was a German Shepherd so she could reach pretty high. My mama used to complain that Tasha picked all her figs lol. My mama was short, so she'd have to get a ladder to pick them.

I had a praying mantis as a pet for several years!!! I found it in my roses & it came & set on my shoulder!!! Eventually it came into my house!!! It would sit on my shoulder & watch TV in the evenings!!! Many took care of the flies in my house!!! I fed him lettuce & grasses & he was a joy to watch!!! After about 4 years I got up one morning & his aquarium was empty!!! I don't know what happened & I never did find him!!! I think he knew it was time to go & slipped out the door & I just didn't notice!!! I searched every plant, shelf & room in my house!!! He was a good friend & loved it when I talked to him!!! Praying Mantis usually don't live very long so I'm thankful for the time he was around & chose me to be his friend!!! Don't ever be afraid of them!!! They are harmless I assure you!!! 😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
