I found it very interesting. I have a crabapple tree that was smothered by a lilacbush that died my brother pulled it out with his truck. I noticed the poor little tree and in the spring it burst into bloom. I never knew you could make jelly from them always thought they were to tart to eat.

I love seeing the orchard!! I'm 70 years old and I remember at about 11 or 12 eating peaches at my grandparents home and throwing the "stones" over the hill behind their house. Today, there are 4 or 5 peach trees that are "wild" and still produce peaches. How about a couple banana trees, just for fun!!!

I love to hear you talk about gardening. I grew up on a farm that had a fruit orchard. It had, pear trees, apple, cherry. We had tons of black raspberries, in the summer us kids had a blast in that orchard. We also, in the yard, we had a mulberry tree. I didn't care for them, way to sweet. My dad complained all the time about that tree because the birds would eat the mulberry then make a purple mess on his truck....😅😅 I live in Michigan 😊❤

My grandparents owned half a city block and I would say 3/4 of that was garden and fruit orchard. My grandpa grew apples, pears, plums, cherries, blackberries, grapes, and more. In the garden, he grew peanuts, strawberries, okra, corn, beans, peas, and so much more that I can't remember. Us cousins would get together, steal the dog's food dish, rinse it out, and go picking. We would get caught and told we were going to be sick if we ate it all. I never remember getting sick from eating all that. It was so good and still warm from the sun.

I had a praying mantis as a pet for several years!!! I found it in my roses & it came & set on my shoulder!!! Eventually it came into my house!!! It would sit on my shoulder & watch TV in the evenings!!! Many took care of the flies in my house!!! I fed him lettuce & grasses & he was a joy to watch!!! After about 4 years I got up one morning & his aquarium was empty!!! I don't know what happened & I never did find him!!! I think he knew it was time to go & slipped out the door & I just didn't notice!!! I searched every plant, shelf & room in my house!!! He was a good friend & loved it when I talked to him!!! Praying Mantis usually don't live very long so I'm thankful for the time he was around & chose me to be his friend!!! Don't ever be afraid of them!!! They are harmless I assure you!!! 😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Truth be told Jason, anything that survived this year's weather is a minor miracle. You have excellent mentors & never cut corners, your orchard will thrive. My elderly Aunt & Uncle had a bunching Concord type grape that had the same capsule & seeds although smaller. They had a long multi wire clothesline for them to grow. I got good at target spitting the seeds I must say. The flavor was divine. All of this hard work will pay dividends ..weather permitting❣Blessings for Gentle Rain💙

I am happy to see the fruit orchard looking so good. I love blackberries, raspberries & strawberries. My Ukrainian grandmother in Canada, grew raspberries by the bushel. You can make blackberry tea in the spring from the leaves. Just trim the fresh leaves from the bush just before it flowers and bears fruit. You can do the same with raspberries. I have raspberries I do that with but I don't mind a little bit of bitterness so in fall after my raspberries are done flowering and fruiting I cut out the stragglers that spread out of the bed and make tea out of all the leaves. It is yummy and even more yummy if you use freeze dried and then dehydrated to get rid of stickiness on freeze dried berries and add to the tea it makes it even better. It is great without the berries but it is over the moon with them. You want about 3 parts or more leave and 1 part or less berries.

Seeing the figs brought back such memories for me. I grew up on a small, 10-acre farm in rural SC. We had 1 huge fig tree beside our house that would fill a room and you could pick figs off the top off the tree from a 2nd floor window. Crazy, right? I don't know what kind of fig it was, but it grew so big that my dad would cut it completely back about every 7 years. But my fondest memory is of my dog, Tasha, picking ripe figs for herself from the bottom branches. She was a German Shepherd so she could reach pretty high. My mama used to complain that Tasha picked all her figs lol. My mama was short, so she'd have to get a ladder to pick them.

I couldn’t be more excited and happy for you. Your hard work and knowledge made your orchard awesome. Fingers crossed for better weather conditions in the future. The fig trees we have in the north get wrapped and covered in the cold months but NY weather is so different from yours. The good Lord willing I hope to see when everything is mature and full of fruit and berries.💕

It's a shame you lost so many trees and bushes ... but I have no doubt they will be replaced and perhaps with more hardy varieties, allowing for drought, heat, and low temperatures. I recommend the rabbiteye blueberry for your area, if you don't already have it. You are doing a fabulous job with the fruit orchard. I am so jealous of all the space you have! LOL

What a beautiful orchard. Your tree method becomes espaliered trees, have you looked them up? You can actually buy them that way. 😮
