Nice job. One thing I used to do when changing out spark plugs I would use a rubber tube that would go over the top of the spark plug and I would use that to start my screwing into the housing so I didn’t strip out the threads on the engine block. I used the black color rubber hose to give me the right tension and then after starting the treading process I would just pull the rubber off and use the socket after to finish it. As always you do a great job Safe Navigation

Hi Capt... we changed our plugs a month or so ago. We got them from Sim Yamaha and were told that they were 'pre-gapped' for the engine (they had a plastic sleeve around the threaded part). But, I still checked the gap with the 'feelers', and all was good... The boat has a 2014, 300 HP Yamaha. It had about 350 (?) hours on it when we got it, so I'll guess the plugs were changed once before we got it. When we changed them a month ago, we had 600+ hours on those plugs. (near 1000 hours total on engine).... The plugs were in great shape! But I will change them much more often now....

Wow Captain you have 1000 hrs on that engine that is awesome you realy enjoyed that boat. And yes to be in the safe side the manual says 100 hours I would do it between 150 to 200. Thanks for watching captain

Electrical connector on top of plug is a coil pack. Always start up in the water, cones can be used but may not work as well. And this is strickly my opinion. Great video Capt.!!!

Torque to 18-21ftlbs and also add dielectric grease in the plug boot is always a good idea. In addition your 5/8 spark plug socket should have the rubber inside so holds on to the plug as is is deep inside. Just additional pointers.

Just like on a car. Hey, can you do a video on end of season engine maintenance and what has to be done to winterize and store the motor for the winter, especially getting ALL of the water out of it? I live in upstate NY (wa-ay upstate) and am a new boat owner and I'm worried about having any water freezing up in the motor as I have an unheated garage and temps go down below 10* inside it in the winter. We're already having close to freezing temps @ night (tonight is supposed to drop to 31*) and I'm worried about damaging my motor. Thank you.
@OutOnTheReef
@OutOnTheReef 4 жыл бұрын
Wow Captain sorry to hear that but I have never winterize my boats because I use it year-round and I'm in Florida it hardly freezes here so I have no idea how to do that Captain so I apologize. But I'm pretty sure you can find some videos on KZbin on that that helps you out please stay warm

Do the 200’s not require a certain torque setting ? All the other Yamahas I’ve done have a specific torque for the plugs.
