I relate to this. Trauma is a big contribution to addiction. Delving into childhood trauma is the scariest thing. Ive done some work on it but I could do more.

For those suffering from addiction, it isn't your fault. If you look into Gabor Mate you will see that it's down to trauma.

Pharmaceutical drugs are terrible poisons - from the wife of a poor victim stuck forever on a cocktail of high-dose nasties for depression that he is unable to withdraw from, and believe me, we've tried everything.

I wonder if he will try psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. There is an amazing clinic called Awaken in Bristol that uses Ketamine. So much more research to be done on how addiction can be treated by psychedelic therapy.

Matt Willis Try dmt or Ayahuasca with a shaman in Peru. Last resort. Helped Tyson. Also read the books power of now and a new earth by Eckhart Tolle. It seems you are still very much attached to your ego identity and it's past. Once you awaken the need to drink or do drugs will become obsolete because you will realise your true identity. 🙏♾️🧘‍♂️
