My respect and admiration for Jason and Andrew grows with every song, every gig, every interview. I’m about a fortnight older than J, so way too old for hero worship. Just hugely appreciate such an intelligent, perceptive, and witty take on the world, combined with Andrew’s weapons-grade musical bedrock. So fucking blessed that I stumbled across them about 6 or 7 years ago. Instant connection. This was a terrific & highly skilled interview, Oli.

Clean from heroin after 23yrs , four years now and what Jason said about giving you an edge... I got addicted thanks to my boss at the time and it felt so nice and I thought how on earth can people say it's addictive and for a while I felt on top of the world and then one day... I see that now I wasted the most important years of my life and I regret that so much but I'm doing really well again but I see the world in a whole different better way and I'm trying to do the best with the rest of my time here.

The change in what they write about in relation to their success reminds me of The Streets, they did the same. I think it’s inevitable really, if they are gonna write with integrity, rather than pretend to just be living the same life they had before. It’s possible that this means they can’t make albums as good as their first albums, but for me, I think they’re still great, their edgy sense of humour shines through.

I really dig his willingness not to just say 'no regrets'. That's the way we're taught to think, and in a way that's healthy-not too much shame and all that. But also, sometimes we do stuff that maybe wasn't so good long term.

20+ yrs off everything....perverse as it is, and 100% not condoning/recommending, but doing it so you can stop and realise you don't need it/you're better off without is almost more valuable than never having done it. Look at Iggy too
@arlaban222 жыл бұрын
I agree with him about the drugs...some people go down the road of drugs and going on a huge journey, across years.. only to come back to yourself...and then that's enough...you don't need the drugs because you are enough...more than enough and reality is the drug...for the want of a better word...you have found yourself....and that's OK...then you begin to regret the time lost on drugs but maybe the journey was something you needed...to knock the scrap yard train into shape or like banging on an old TV that doesn't work properly...and after a few bangs..for some incomprehensible reason starts to work...like some peice through the vibration and violence..falls into place.

Sleaford Mods are one of the best and most important Brit bands in years. 👍🏻 Smart, humble guy. And some very, as expected, thoughtful takes on current Britain. Not sure I agree on the drug thing... It opens you up and shuts you down, for better and for worse. The main thing is you grow from it, and move on. And if you can create amazing art - even better.
@liamoshea13323 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but it's a double edged sword & if you have the Talent then it's better to let that develop side by side with the individual's growth patterns. As he said in the interview, they can become a habit. Drugs CAN give you an edge, no argument there but in the long haul not a good move (in my opinion at least. I think Musical development grows alongside individual development. The casualty list speaks volumes...

I think they’re great, took me a while to think that if I’m honest, but they are . I’d heard them for years but wasn’t listening, now that I do I’m proud to be a fan. We haven’t had a band for 30 yrs or so that are outspoken, aware of the current social issues, and have a valid opinion, and don’t care what they say. So to me that makes them at least ones of the most important current bands. Proper artists I relate to them a lot, I really like how he talks about drink n drugs, how it shrinks your world, that’s exactly how if feel as I’m the same generation as him and seem to have the same kind of history and experiences. Hooked.

I was at the Roses Wembley gig. The Mods were easily the best of the supports. I was in a section of the front row, behind which there was no shoving. It felt idilic, it's intriguing the stuff you miss by not being in the midst of the melle of the crowd. It's sad how some behave at these gigs. When at Etihad stadium the year before, was in the middle of the crowd and it was very different and quite crazy.
