@@mikesfjrcorner7129 Mike, if i may bother you with a question. My FJR gen1 came with factory heated grips, as one is faulty.. i was wondering if you happen to know if they're glued on? If so, is destruction the only way of removing them? Thank you
@mikesfjrcorner7129

Hello, when I purchased my bike, there was heated grips with the wires cut. So, when I removed the grips, under the grips there was a mylar film with heat elements inside. This mylar is glued to the handlebar and throttle tube. I don't remember if the grip was also glued. I would try compressed air under the grip to get the grip off without too much fuss and without destroying the grip or mylar heater. If that does not work then I guess you would have to cut the grip. I would try a scissors to cut the grip. On this video, I used a razor knife due to the rubber being very tough and about 1/4" thick. Hope this helps. Thanks

Sorry for the delay in responding, been deep in sorting out a broken front fork cartridge. I just got four videos done. The last one explains the problem. Took almost four months to get the parts together and reshoot the last video. Taking a short brake, fuel prices, got to ride. I'll revisit more videos in the later fall. Valve timing, delkevic headers to go with the cans. New fairing and replacing damaged mirror. Crash bars. Fuel Controller and Mixture Meter and anything else I might need while it's apart. Mike

Watching you work on your bike make me miss my FJR Gen 1. Although my body motor function still reasonably ok (except for the numbness) after my stroke but I don't know/afraid if I could handle that beast again. Also if your damaged fairing got cracked you might want to watch how this kid from Ronald Fingers fixed his cracked body of his Fiero restoration.

Thanks, unfortunately we get old.I have to be careful with diabetes, not to get neuropathy. Yes, I have seen that video series. I use to own one back in the day. Fun car for not much money. Pontiac missed the mark with that one.

So glad to see that you are back. I will be getting myself a 2005 fjr soon and i'm so happy that you put up so much videos that perfectly explain what to do and not. Really inspires me and makes me more confident. Will there be a coolant change video in the future?
@mikesfjrcorner7129
@mikesfjrcorner7129 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Yes. After the next round of videos. 3/4 the way through this round. Some shooting and editing. Once this is done, I'm doing a valve check, which will include changing the coolant.

Thanks for the update. I have a 2011 and was not sure if the heater would still work if I replaced my handles??
@mikesfjrcorner7129
@mikesfjrcorner7129 Жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm assuming you mean replacing the grips. a quick look at the parts list for the 2011 shows the heating element and grips being one piece. So if you replaced the grips, you would need to use the OEM grips to maintain heated grips . Hope this helps.

Any tips on lubricating the throttle cable? I am not finding an easy way to access a place to get them serviced .
@mikesfjrcorner7129
@mikesfjrcorner7129 Жыл бұрын
Hello, disassemble the throttle tube. Remove the cables and clean the cable ends. Use a cable lube tool available at most dealers. Slide it over the end of the cable, wrap the tool with a cloth, then insert the lube into the tool. Let it sit for a few minutes, gravity will do the rest to draw the lube into the cable. Hope this helps

I got a 2003 (serial number 00009) with 325,000km on it with original grips, been looking around for ideas on grips for my bad hands. Rubber anti-vibration riser mounts were step 1, larger diameter grips are definitely going to be step 2. What brand bar ends are those?

ThrottleMaster, I don't think there available anymore. You can get these: Kaoko Throttle Lock: www.solomotoparts.com/Kaoko-Throttle-Lock-Cruise-Control-for-FJR1300-01-18/

Hi Mike! I own a 2013 FJR which displays 94,500 Km (58,000 miles) after my last oil change, I noticed a rattling on the right side of the bike. I suspect it is the chain tensioner, if this is the case should I also change the chain? Thank you in advance for your valuable advice. Greetings from Montreal!
@mikesfjrcorner7129
@mikesfjrcorner7129 Жыл бұрын
At 58 thousand, it should be ok, however it's on the beginning side of being stretched. So if you are already in the side case, might as well replace the chain. Do a valve check as well. FYI: having the valve cover off will make getting to the screws on the tensioner easier. Just don't drop them into the engine. Hepe this helps, mike

Hello Mike. I just subscribed to your channel. I presently own a 1993 FJ1200 and now thinking of a 2018 and up used FJR1300. You seem like a down to earth honest guy and I would like your opinion on the seat height of these bikes. I’m 5’8” wondering if the FJR is too tall. What’s your height and what year is your bike?
@mikesfjrcorner7129

Hello. It's a 2005. I'm 5'6 with 29" inseam. I'm on my toes, but it's manageable. I'd suggest give it a test ride if you can. It's a great bike. The 3rd generation seat height is adjustable. It is a little top heavy though. Don't let it get too far over. The Connie is a little taller. In the store I tried sitting on it and I could not reach the ground, so I went with the FJR.

Mike, I also have an 2005 FJR. I discovered by accident that the bar end was a throttle lock, ironically while I was looking at what kind of throttle lock would fit best on my bike. Mine are the same as yours. Do you know who made them, or have any info for their installation and adjustment? Thanks
@mikesfjrcorner7129
@mikesfjrcorner7129 Жыл бұрын
Hello, they were made by Throttlemaster. They are not available any longer. Mine were on the bike when I bought it. It originally had a collar that fit under the grip and was adjusted by sliding it in and out. Since I have the foam grips with a hard rubber inside, I don't use the sleeve, it just tightens on the edge of the grip. I just use shims on the bolt to adjust how tight the end is. I adjust it so it is just free all the way open. Hope this helps

I have r-gaza crash bars that need to be installed. I have a series of videos I'm just finishing up. "Remove and Install Front and Rear Rims", "Change front fork oil". Should be out soon. Once this is done. The next series that will be shot all at the same time is "Removal of all fairings and plastics", "Valve check", "Installation of delkevic headers", "Installation of Fuel Controller and Bluetooth Fuel/Air Meter", "Installation of Fairing & Plastics Kit", "Installation of R-Gaza Crash Bars". It's a lot of work that needs to be done while the bike is apart. I have everything needed. If everything goes well, should be out sometime within the next month. Don't want the bike apart too long.
