Changing the lens of the Insta360 One X2 | DIY lens swap

Good information - in that we see the innards of the X2. Following 4 YT tutorials. This week, I just took a sharp blade and strong tiny screwdriver to just prise away the lens from the socket. This worked. No drill. No cutting. No removing of cover. takes 10 minutes per side to remove the lens and glue in the new ones. You need courage - this is my 2nd X2 and the scratched lens is beyond any redemption other than this repair.

I am glad you were able to remove the lens easily. I realized that once I removed the top, that I didn't have to remove the cover 🤷‍♀️

Hi. Once it is no waterproof anymore i think only a pinch of glue here and there will just do it. You ll never know when you have to replace the lense again. For a non professional i would say it did a good work there. Congratulations. Thank you for this amazing DIY video. Carlos M.

Thanks 😊 Althougt it is doable. If you have the money and the time, send it to the company, yours must be on it's warranty. And this will void it.

You're welcome. I am not sure to understand your question... I didn't open the camera, so I didn't see any hardware, and I didn't touch or remove the actual lens, only the lens cover. And I didn't see any difference from before and after in the image quality.

The lens will pop in firmly. You don't really need to glue it in.

I was able to buff one lens, but the other one, the scratch was to deep. Glad my vid helped. Remember, you don't need to remove the top! Good luck

Hi Judith your video help me a lot! I could remove the lens without any damage ob the front cover! But to replace the lens is obligatory to remove this front cover once the bevel on it will keep the lens in place!

Nice job. The only thing I have seen differently is to NOT use superglue and just snap it in place. Supposedly the glue can emit gasses that mess up the inside of the new lens cover. Not sure if you have seen this. Cheers!

You are right, the lens does snap in place. I didn't know about the gasses, though. I didn't see anything weird yet regarding the lens or while recording. I will do an update to show how it records and what you get and the results. I'll take a closer look at that. Thanks for letting me know!

Not waterproof because I openned the top which is not needed... otherwise, it would be. And the reason I decided to change it myself is that it would of cost me more (because I'm in Canada and I had to ship it to US) and I would of not have my camera for a few weeks... and maybe months. But you are right, if you don't need the cam and able to wait, and you are able to pay, it's better off sending it to the company, for sure.

The problem is the quality of stitching the image from two matrices. This is a very fine-tuning. The video does not show the result of how the camera shoots after replacing the lens. And how it stitches both images.

Good point. I didn't do a follow-up vid. I will. Since it is not the primary lense, there is no stiching problem... not that I've seen.

Loll not sure about superwoman... maybe more a "want-to-do-by-herself-to-save-money" type of gal! 😂 I did buy some protective lenses, but I took them out... because you can see them if the suns reflects in them. It turned out great! I will do a update vid soon!

STOP! Before removing lenses! You can polish it with easy without replacement if it doesn’t cracked.

I did try to polish it before changing it. But it didn't work because the lens was cracked, and some of the scratches were too deep to polish.

I don't remember what I used, but you can do a search for "glass polishing compound." There are a few out there. You also need sand papers with a small number. You can buy kits for cracked glass on Amazon or in a hardware store.

I agree. I don't get why they didn't come up with something stronger. But if you don't remove the cover like I did and only the outer lens, the camera will still be waterproof.
