Commercial vehicles 1st was the best move to make, nothing but government contracts. If they can produce cost effective products that can be easily maintained; they'll own that market. In the future, recycling is something we need to do well, especially if we're trying to use less oil.

That's right. For consumer products (say, electric cars) the difference in cost between ICE and EV is harder to justify. Im a bus driver. They mention that the materials they use are, unlike conventional steel formed panelled vehicles, can be recycled hundreds of times. When a company buys a bus, its target working life is around 12-15 years. Our workshop repairs panels on a daily basis - existing panels get repaired dozens of times. Our buses do approx 50k - 80k miles a year. We have 113 buses in our depot. Each bus gets fuelled every night. If we had a fleet of these electric buses, the area needed to either charge buses, or if their battery packs were replaceable, charge the packs would have to be absolutely massive for our 113 buses - and we are not a big depot. We would need to lease/buy extra ground space to do this. The extra space would not be on the necessary depot site, therefore arrangements would need to be made to transport massive battery packs safely and continously from depot site to extra storage/charge sites. It's all a great idea in theory but in my humble view, the reality of these vehicles is probably about 10-15 years away sadly. Most companies will only be able to purchase a few buses on a type test basis.

But the UK cant compete in the EU market because you wanna get out of EU but still want to get access to the market. It doesnt work like that. By the way my province in the Netherlands already has 50% of all busses running on batteries. We already have EV private BUS companies.. not in the stock market just doing great. But you dont hear about tbem because they are not there to gather money from investors to create a financial bubble... with an IPO. Like alot American and UK companies. British people these days really just follow american model of elite rich people not paying tax. While the middle class suffers. UK is toast ok.

@@HermanWillems British people aren't one homogeneous hive mind. Believe it or not, there are around 67,000,000 seperate minds on these Isles, each capable of individual thought (to varying degrees admittedly). For example, 48% of the electorate here didn't vote for the "shitshow" that is Brexit. But 48 is less than 52, and we live in a democracy, so we are where we are. 🤷♂️

@@paulski1080 Getting 50% against the EU seems pretty homogeneous to me. In our referendum system you had to have at least 70%. We even discarded the whole referendum thing as based on science we know now that referendums do not work. Here in the Netherlands we could not even get to 25% to leave the EU probably. We also get education on school about the EU, only the BOOMERS never had that and do not know how the EU works. It is known in the Netherlands for example that the whole ignition of the Brexit was started by the 2016 EU Anti Tax Avoidance Law on which the British elite got afraid. Also if you look at the wealth of politicians in the UK it's immensely higher than other countries in the EU. Therefore they stand very far away from the regular people. The UK is split in half and the rich elite successfully manipulates the people with less education/IQ/income to their will. We all know here in Mainland how the british elite loves the tax avoidance islands. So the UK Elite would be hurt most by these new laws. Just look at how these UK politicians responded in the EU meeting about this Directive. They literally cooked from anger!! How dare the EU make fair tax laws for rich people !! How dare they attack the elite ! ;)

@@HermanWillems not sure why you're insistant on having a rant about Brexit in the comment section of a video about EV technology? I didn't vote for David Cameron or Brexit, but it's happened and there's no changing it now. Time to move on...

This is still traditional, The aerodynamics is equal to brick lol. Aerodynamics plays an important part in vehicle performance. Future vehicles would be 10 times more aerodynamics than traditional vehicles.

Their vehicles are made to balance between aerodynamics and cargo volume-parking dimensions ratio. This means that they are neither completely streamlined like sedans, nor completely square-edged like older industrial vehicles, but somewhere in between.

Composite body panels. Wow, why not every car follow this!
@ionianfalcon4 жыл бұрын
Because in modern cars the shell is part of the chassis and provides structural rigidity. So composite materials like these might not be strong enough. Carbon fiber is strong for example but used in exotic cars cause of its cost. But in trucks, busses, vans e.t.c they use a body on frame design where the panels don't really serve a purpose.
