Hearing that "Bob White Quail" in the background made me smile. We used to hear them out here when we moved here in 1998, but development has pushed them out. Have not heard one in years... Those Okree plants look like Dinosaur Kale with those stocky thick stalks.
@JohnDeWeese-lq4pf Жыл бұрын
I heard it TOO! Thought I was hearing a mocking bird. Had to go back and listen close, but it was definitely a male Bob White Quail.😊

Since 1968 ,,I have been growing okra every year here in North Carolina,,and have always pruned everything off the plant below the lowest pod of okra ,,thus it grows up taller and also bears later and more than it does if I did not prune.

Oh and I had to prune up my dwarf cow horn also. It was miserable trying to get the pods. Thanks for the seeds. I’ve harvested tons of okra this season.

I learned to prune okra from you Travis from a video you did last year. I've been doing it all this season and I have 6' tall okra plant...easy to see & harvest & still producing a mess every other day!

My Red Burgundy and Clemson Spineless are over 6 feet tall, and I only have been pruning the dead leaves. Jambalaya not as tall but producing good. Enjoy your content and I learn a lot from you; thanks!
@JohnDeWeese-lq4pf Жыл бұрын
I grow all three of those "Okreee" (Travis' pronunciation). I like the Red Burgundy best. Seems to take the pickling better. Red Clemson spineless just gets way too tall in NC but has about the same production as Jambalaya. I bought some of the Dwarf Cowhorn seeds from Travis. Put some in the ground a few days ago before we got the rain and wind from Idalia. Hope they grow as well as his does.

Next time you plant corn put some netting over those crops keep those worms out. I'm doing that to my tomatoes this year. Worms destroyed my tomatoes last year. I hope you had no damage from the hurricane and everyone is safe. God Bless

Couldn't find a comment box, so I'm gonna drop my question here. My okra is attracting large black ants and they seem to go after the blooms. What would you recommend to combat them? Hope the storms don't flood you out down there.

Can you give the corn stalks to a farmer nearby that has cows or pigs? They would love them.
@karenguth8529 Жыл бұрын
Travis, are you going to put those squash on trellises or let them sprawl? Disease wise I am trying to figure out how to grow things in fall in the south? I am about to plant my fall cukes and squash on my trellises. Thank you
@LazyDogFarm Жыл бұрын
Just going to let them go. They'll get some disease pressure, but sometimes we can outpace it with fertile soil and healthy plants.
@CraftEccentricity Жыл бұрын
Have you found always leaving the roots eventually causes root knot nematodes?

I haven't, but we are careful about rotating veggies that are susceptible to nematodes.
