Hey, if it's hard to get the clamp loose to remove the hose close to the thermostat housing, maybe you can try to remove the clamp on the other end of the hose. I saw on Ebay, an used whole thermostat unit with 3 hose connected to it. So apparently, somebody remove them the other way around.

HELP, please. Problem is sporadic random overheating, accompanied with coolant liquid blown out tru the release valve on the plastic overflow container. I installed new thermostat (ebay), new water pump (the old one looks ok, and the rotor does not appear to be damaged) pressure test was good, keeps 12 psi for long time, exhaust fumes in coolant is negative, I pumped many many many times, the liquid remains blue... While you are at it, change the electric water pump. It can fail after 100k and goodbye head gasket.
@troylollysaf93113 жыл бұрын
So as soon as water pump stop working your head gasket will be destroyed immediately?
@amazoidal3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as soon as the inadequately designed electric water pump fails, you can't pull over fast enough to avoid overheating. And you won't have a clue what's wrong without a bluetooth scanner. Buy one off Amazon and get Dr. Prius for your phone.

Hi Pls advice ,how long it takes The engine to reach normal Temp.? Tks
@amazoidal2 жыл бұрын
How would you know.? No temp gauge. But on long trip and going up hills, I use my wired scanner because it has the ability to read coolant temp. Gets to about 197 on big hills like Cajon Pass on the way to Vegas from San Diego. Will back off on MPH if temp goes over 200. My 2012 Prius is known to blow head gaskets. I will change the electric water pump at 100k (81k now) to avoid the dreaded water pump failure due to plastic parts that degrade with heat cycles.

@jayjohnson43525 жыл бұрын
Shaver Dave Yes. It is a Hybrid. My thermostat wasn’t letting the engine warm up to operating temperature. It was for mechanical purposes, not the heater in the car. Although I have the same issue as you do with my heater.

Hi why did you change it, my car had engine heat blink once on motorway coolant is still there I did 100 mile after that what should I do change the thermostat
@jayjohnson43525 жыл бұрын
ullah552 Hey Ullah552, Thanks for the question. The metal spring on the thermostat looses its elasticity after being heated and cooled too many times. It causes the plug on the thermostat to get stuck in whatever position it happens to be in. If it’s midway open, you may never notice. But if it’s stuck all the way open your car never heats up to operating temperature and will not pass a smog inspection. If it’s stuck in the closed position, your car will overheat causing numerous engine problems.

The thermostat stops the flow of water so it can heat up. If you take it out, your heater won’t work and the car will never reach proper operating temperature
