I catch a ton of Walleye and big pike on Lesser Slave Lake, and others in the area that are similar. Long, shallow, rocky shores... wading and fan casting miles of water with long steelhead rods. There's a ton of bait in shallow, so even in the heat of summer big fish will still show up for a feed. I've tried it in other waters for other species, and as long as there is enough fishable shore I always catch fish. The more I do it, the better it works, and the less my boat gets used.

Had a family fish fry with a 41 pound catfish yesterday. Folks said it was the best they had ever eaten. Can’t over stress how important removing the fat and the blood line is. Large cats taste wonderful, but if you leave the fat there is an off putting taste similar to the smell of a live catfish.

Catfish are predators and while I use bait for targeting catfish I have caught them unintentionally with panther martin spinners and even fly fishing with a wooley bugger while bass fishing. Btw to each his own but my personal experience eating freshwater drum, the texture is so off putting will never eat that fish again. As for cats, both blues and channels are delicious but I get a bigger thrill from a blue suddenly bending the rod with no twitching just a violent straightforward pull
