Hi everyone. I have been overwhelmed by your messages of support. I’ve read every single message and have taken something from every one of them and apols for not responding individually as I was at the ABR for the weekend. I was obviously pretty low when making this video but after reading all of this encouragement it makes me realise why I do this. Thank you for your words, your coffees, and your support. It means everything. Sláinte, Dave.

Been there, Dave. It's a tough gig no matter what anyone else sees or thinks. I stopped giving out advice on what bike to buy, I was getting about 10 messages a day at one point and most people just argued that my opinion was wrong. So I just say to people, buy what works for YOU these days. Hope you find a suitable solution that works for you! I usually take a bit of a break over winter. Hope your health continues to improve! As an aside, KZbin at the moment is very tough to get the big views, my channel has been suffering for about 6 months. Not sure what's changed but something certainly has.

Hi Dave, I’m 59 and last year due to similar health issues that you are experiencing I switched to a carnivore diet, I dropped from 96kg and currently weigh 83kg, blood pressure issues greatly reduced, fatty liver back to normal and averted diabetes, never felt better and it’s helped with the fuel economy on my bikes 😉. As always there are those who agree with this diet and the knockers so it’s down to the individual at the end of the day. I love modern classic bikes like your VFR and I also own a 19 year old VFR that is as nice as yours so it’s old school bikes for me as not everyone can afford new. Hi Dave, you are by far my favourite KZbinr, not to blow smoke up your arse, but please know that you are very much appreciated mate. I can totally relate to your occasional feelings of insecurity and if it helps you to talk, believe me it helps me to listen. Good luck with your health, it sounds like a timely wake up call which I’m sure you will embrace. Just quickly, at almost 65 I’m catching a train from Wakefield to Glasgow to buy a Street Triple 675R 2010 vintage and ride it home 220 miles. Only passed my test last year and biking has given me a new dimension which can’t be explained (or understood by my wife 😂) Take care.

Hi Dave. Personally I watch and have watched your channel because of the way you come across as a person. Your content is very watchable it flows and it has a real warmth and passion to it. You allow us to live experience and see things that otherwise we wouldn't be able to and your obvious appreciation of beautiful places and scenery is infectious. For me when some other youtubers chase the numbers their personality and content changes which for me is a shame because they are not who and why I started watching them in the first place. So in conclusion you are appreciated even though at times you may not think so. Only continue to make vlogs if it makes you happy.

Hi Dave. I (Diana) just turned 53 in June and thankfully no health issue and hopefully it will stay like this. I changed my diet 7 years ago to prevent as much as possible such as stroke/ heart attack etc. We have retirement plans and to do that we need our health. Changes to our lifestyle are never easy and needs dedication and constant reminder to yourself what you can eat and can't eat. You will get the hang of it 😀 I looked out for you at the ABR, but didn't see you. Would have loved to say Hi 😊 Look after yourself and stay healthy 💚

Dave, your channel is great, I love the camera equipment reviews, your bikes, your chat but most of all I love your Ireland tours. So inspired was I by everything you've shared about Ireland that in June my partner and I took a ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare then down to Kinsale to follow the Wild Atlantic Way all the way to Garway. We had a fantastic time, ten days touring on my BMW R1250GS, 1300 miles, plenty of Guinness, wonderful people, views to die for; it was amazing and we are already planning a return trip next year to complete the WAW starting in Galway. But I'm sure we will continue to explore Ireland in the future. After years of touring Europe and never once considering touring Ireland, it was you who made it happen. Thank you and keep up the great work whatever you find, but first and foremost look after your health. Cheers.

Dave, love your videos. Just got back to Australia from Ireland after spending three months riding in the Emerald Isle, Outer Hebrides, Scotland and further south. Vlogging is a tough gig and I have no advice. Better to have a heart to heart with Andy or Bruce. You could take Andy’s path and have a run in with the Garda! It worked for him when pulled over by the London police. Or ask your subscribers to share to Facebook groups when they see a question that you have answered in one of your vids.

Why not just treat the vlogging as a hobby. If you change your expectation, it may become less stressful than committing to schedules, getting certain shots, trying to think of content etc. If you go out for a ride and feel like chucking a simple camera setup on and having a natter down the mic to us or clearing your head, we’ll all appreciate the vid but no sweat if you dont fancy recording for a few weeks. You’ll be supported here no matter what. All the best with the health kick.

Sorry to hear of the health issues Dave, it sounds like you have taken control though and are working on reversing the harm done. We bikers often don't have the best of lifestyles. This must have put a bit of a dampener on the ABR for you. Talking of the ABR, it was awesome to hang out with you for the pub quiz 🙂 Can't offer any advise on what is best for you to do, but I do enjoy your vloggy vlogs like this more than I enjoy bike reviews, so if that gives you encouragement to continue I'll be glad. I'd stay away from subscription only, although you could do a subscription only for an advice channel as a separate channel to this, then if anyone pesters you for help, you can point them to that channel and if they don't like the pay-point, then they don't get access to ask your advice. You have a glorious playground, well worth exploring it on the bike, and muchly appreciated when you drag us along with you 🙂

A very young and youthful looking 57 year old here, moved to a beautiful house to start a new lifestyle in December, a week later I had a massive heart attack, the type that you dont get to the phone for (apparently). Luckily I did and was saved. Dont take these health issues lightly especially the blood pressure. I am six months into recovering..still a slog, the wind was totally out of my sales, now with the weather I am getting into the garden and am pottering around, I started painting again too but my biking..the bike is sitting currently, my photography...it can wait for now. You will be fine, you are on the right track, mentally, take a break, do something new perhaps, I would love to hear about some more local or near local places you zip by, of course everyone will sit and listen to that voice of yours. Shiny side up! x

Hi Dave, Slieve Gullion is a favourite of mine. I go there a few times every year 👍. Regarding the channel ... I'd say focus on an audience type is the key ... is it camera stuff, bike reviews or tourism? To be honest, camera stuff and bike reviews don't interest me very much at all... I don't intend to be a vlogger, and I can only afford/ride one bike at a time🤣. For me, it's the tourism I enjoy, when you go places and see sights. This would also feed into those foreign, UK and Irish bikers considering a road trip in Ireland/GB. Places of interest like monuments or places of historic interest. The mountain passes, Northumbria and Achill were all very enjoyable. Perhaps let your subscribers vote a set of alternative specific directions they would like you to go. Maybe that would help? ... but yes, as a diabetic myself, health should come first. I think the key is do what you enjoy and permit yourself to take the time to enjoy it. Perhaps don't get stressed about regular output and don't be overly concerned about getting a video out every single week. So-what if the subscribers have to wait a week or two, or three, I dont think they will turn off the subscribe button, but instead will be pleasently surprised as new less frequent content happens to appear in their video feed. If you look at "Marc Travels' youtube he does this and is still very successful. Best wishes and good luck with it. ...Rod.

Do what makes you happy Dave. Great channel. Don’t chase subs, patrons etc as that will simply turn your hobby into another job or chore. Instead do a video when you feel like it, sometimes don’t, and enjoy life. Health, family/friends, enjoyment of life rules. I love riding on my own solitude etc. I know if I attached cameras etc to my riding it would take my ‘living in the moment’ feelings away. That I could not do. All depends if you want KZbin to take over your life and become a living I guess. Either way live your life now. Ride safe.

Hi Dave, welcome to the over 50s metabolic syndrome club. I thoroughly enjoy your content, but I understand your dilemma. As a consumer of motorcycle KZbin content, it is definitely a saturated market; there are a lot of smaller channels, but growing to a big channel must be a massive effort. Are there opportunities for a few KZbinrs to consolidate their channels? You certainly bring unique skills through your day job and an alternative location; other KZbinrs channels content could complement yours. It might be easier to grow with output from 2 or 3 providers hitting several times a week and the opportunity to team up for tours, group tests, share the admin, etc. - I really enjoy the craic when a few KZbinrs get together. Just an observation from the outside.

Like you said, based on your location you’re limited with access to bikes for reviews, there’s nothing you can do change that. And you have a very demanding job, which overlaps with KZbin. So keep doing what your doing, no need for bike reviews, just the usual update on your fleet. Only other thing would be what's it like as a biker in Ireland? Insurance costs, new legislation, how are you treated when you rock up to a 5 star hotel? Maybe a quarterly review that we can compare? Finally, on the health and I have a wee bit of a similar experience. Sounds like your doing the right things, and remember, life is to be enjoyed. Cheers Arthur

Hi Dave, loving the channel. I am also 54 and a few months ago was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes, so I am now on medication for the blood pressure and diabetes. So like you I also need to make some lifestyle changes, I wish you all the best with your health and would totally understand if your channel had to change to suit your circumstances. 👍🏽

Same here, YOU are the content Sir. I watch as soon as you post, start to finish, no matter the subject. All the options you listed are grand , but ultimately if you need a break we’ll be here when you return. I’m sick to death of corporate content and BS “entertainment” that’s really just telling me what to think and lecturing me. I prefer KZbinrs like yourself by far. Thank you so much for all you do. More coffee on the way too!

I know where your at Dave, i myself atm have been very absent from my bike channel, just too much on atm work, boat, house move etc and tbh i feel a little burnt out and don’t want to make a video thats just me waffling on, but wait until i think its a good topic and a worthwhile video. KZbin is a different place lately and when i think last 5 years doing bikes on my channel and still around 15.5k subs, i do wonder if it’s just worth all the hard work. I have decided to now just to upload a video when one flows. Motorcycle channels are small compared to a lot of others and i am doing more on my Sailing channel atm to get that up and running. Wish you well sir and hope the weather was kind for the ABR festival this weekend. Cheers Nick 🙏

Hi Dave. Totally understand get you. My channel has similar number of subs as yours...although I've been doing it for longer. Just took a year's break. Problem is it's very difficult to start again. It is difficult to grow a channel and it's such a massive effort. I've now decided to just create videos that I want to do and with no fixed schedule. Otherwise it can feel like a chore and then the fun is sucked out of it. Anyway, take care of yourself...that's the most important thing! Love your videos by the way, you are very watchable!

Hi Dave. Sorry to hear of your health issues and your indecision about the direction of the channel. At 56 I also have one or two of my own, which are under control but certainly make you think a little more about lifestyles and diet for sure. I first found your channel when I decided I wanted to start doing my own motovlogs and was looking for information on cameras and mics. You were a big inspiration, along with other channels, for me to just get started and I'm amazed and humbled that after just a very few videos I've uploaded so far (they take hours to edit!), it seems people want to watch them. I only really create them for me, but if people like them, that is great. I also watched pretty well all of your videos about Ireland whilst I was planning our trip in May to the west coast. I don't think I would have found places like the Gleniff Horseshoe if it hadn't have been for you. My personal view for my own channel is that it will always be secondary to enjoying my riding, and the mental wellbeing that comes from that. If I can't be bothered to set up the cameras and mics, and I just want a hassle free ride or trip, then so be it. I would say just make sure making the videos never means that riding becomes a chore.

You’re a natural in front of the camera (and behind) but the channel is easy watching, the history tours are a highlight, not that is any comfort Dave but your three recent ailments……..exactly the same as me, but my doctor says enjoy the food and drink, but all in moderation, music to my ears. Keep it between the hedges Dave.

Hello :) 100% your physical and mental health comes first and that's where all your efforts should be concentrated. I think likes for a vlog entitled "final view from inside a dark wooden box" may be somewhat limited... I started watching you because you're informative in an engaging, natural chatty way - with good humour thrown in, always sounding like you're really enjoying what you're doing. So, heal, refind the essence of the joy of motorbikes and touring and if you'd like to share that with us then we'll watch and ride with you every time.

We would go out on a run to various places that you’ve filmed as they intrigued us and we wanted to see it for ourselves. Do what you enjoy and what makes you happy as that comes across in your content and we enjoy the crack and laugh along with you. Hopefully we can get together again for another run out. In the meantime ride safe and enjoy buddy. 👍👌🏍️

Hi Dave, I think your competitive advantage is that you’re based out of Ireland. A lot of people around the world would love watching a channel from Ireland. It’s the scenery, the people and all the charm of Irishness that can and will attract the viewership if done right. And then if you have access to bikes- I personally would love seeing more test rides. Mind yourself anyways!

I don’t think anyone can really advise you. What matters is what YOU like and enjoy. It’s a short time we have on this earth so do what feels right for you. I’m 10 years in front of you and learned this too late, but better late than never. For what’s it’s worth I enjoy your little tours especially the last one around Northumberland with bad weather and all. I think there are too many bike reviews most of which repeat the same things fearful of upsetting the bike loan company / dealer so they are just a mishmash of platitudes. It would be far more interesting if they were honest , warts and all. Whatever you choose good luck with it and please yourself.

I have my go to places for bike reviews and suspect many others do too. I love you visits to places where you can show off Ireland and put points in the map for people who visit. Your videos on public art and the Ferrari horse etc are really interesting too. So I wouldn't change much just keep being you.

I say keep doing what you like as that is what perseveres. There are times where everything is doubtful. Why are we doing what we’re doing when there’s so many others doing the same, even better than we are? That is negative thinking. Just do because it’s what makes you feel good about yourself. We would just get bored and die otherwise. I’m similarly going through rough patches, we all are in fact. Just persevere mate. It’s just a dull rainy day, but when the sun comes out you’ll enjoy it even more.

Many of your issues resonate with me. I turned 60 while away in the Pyrenees. Many KZbin creators go through thoughts of is it worth it. Don't think for most of us, making lots of money on KZbin ever going to be a reality. KZbin is awash with bike content. I think making what you enjoy doing is key to longevity. I'm lucky my wife shares my passion. I'm personally not interested in the bike review merry go round. Travel and adventure by bike and making a record of those travels. Perhaps we will enjoy re-watching these vids in our older age. Best thing about KZbin is the people you meet through it. I'm using my gardening job to try and keep healthy Best wishes to you and yours

Keep at it mate. It's taken a while for me to make a living on KZbin for the last couple of years now, although I still work as a full time music therapist, because essentially, I make videos that interest me and my creativity first. If you start going down the road of trying to make money as your main goal, I feel it will be the wrong path to take and your channel will suffer. Keep doing what you are doing, keep being you, since that's what we all tune in for. I really understand and appreciate your decision regarding cutting back on replying too, since the amount of comments, emails and messages I try and answer is just impossible. I've recently started to burn out myself too, so please do look after yourself, be kind to yourself, take a break if you need to. But please don't disappear. I LOVE your channel, especially the chatting vlogs. Best wishes.

Hi Dave, the old blood pressure etc. issue comes to all of us typical 50 year olds. Change your lifestyle for the better and enjoy a better longer life (on bikes!). As regards the channel. The chances of it funding a retirement are slim - particularly based in Ireland I’d say. Not very motivational I know, but probably realistic. My advice would be to reduce the pressure (maybe 1 video every 2 weeks) and enjoy it more. Content wise, I always love ride outs to places viewers may not have known about with a bit of the history of that place. Maybe a tour or two. I’m just back from the Picos this May, I’ll bring ya over there with me next year and show you some amazing roads and sights. Just don’t let anything ruin the hobby that you (we) all love.

Hi Dave. I really enjoy the videos and appropriate the effort and time that goes into them. Being the son of an Irish man I also love seeing Ireland in all her glory. You've mentioned before how Ireland is an untapped biking mecca. Although your work commitments might not allow this, how about some group rides around Ireland, or maybe if long term planning isnt easy how about some mpre tour routes for a long weekend From Dublin or Rosslare that you vlog and then make the gpx files downloads for a fee? Could help those who want to see Ireland but not sure where to start an ideal reason to visit. Glad you're getting your physical health in check. Make sure you focus on you too.. dont allow the imposter syndrome to creep in, you vlogs are right up there is the rest of the best.. I think most of us just enjoy sharing your thoughts and taking in the scenery as you go. Don't over think it or it will become a chore. Ride safe!

Having been a content provider (2012-2016, 37,000 subs) I think everyone providing content eventually arrives at the point you are at now, irrelevant of the type of content. And yes, i changed my format, style, content etc and may have got past the Brick wall. But the truth is in my case, if you lose the motivation and the inspiration and it becomes a chore and hard work, and you stop enjoying it as much. Then i decided to delete my channel and call it a day after another 8 months of trying different formats, not that i am suggesting that for one minute. But it is hard to juggle a life and become a profitable content creator and yet still enjoy it. And even harder these days than when i started. Less reward, more content providers doing everything that everyone else does. It isn't easy Dave. So, i guess it will ultimately come down to you and what is best for you. You provide great content, and keep it real, i have watched you from the early days, and if anyone can make it happen, it is you Dave.

Stop advice on cameras, people can watch a vlog if you do one. I wouldn’t worry about bike reviews, it’s too difficult for you in the republic and everyone else does them so content gets samey,. What I really enjoy are your trips around Ireland. Although not managed it cos I work away sporadically myself , a meet up for a coffee. I also enjoy your equipment reviews , like the tank bag , which I now also own. In short just enjoy whatever you put out 👍

The tours and historical features are my favourites but the quality of your camera work on capturing the views as you ride around definitely made me notice your channel initially. Would a monthly "live chat" stream add a new dimension ?
