Frontier Trading Company

Күн бұрын

Years of immersive historical experience and a passion for the eighteenth century combine to form the foundation of Frontier Trading Company. I grew up with TV shows like Disney's Davy Crockett, in a city with enormous historical importance, and eventually worked for the Boy Scouts of America interpreting eighteenth-century life. Now, I am taking my experience to KZbin to help my audience enhance their historical experiences and to provide a framework of skills for future FTC staff at Pioneer Scout Reservation.

Excellent channel! I wish there were more young people involved in their history, as you are. Hopefully, a new generation will be willing and inspired to follow their passion too. It must be difficult to do on your own. Here, in VA, you’d think there would be a community of colonial enthusiasts, reenactors and those into living 18th century history. Sadly, there is not. But you have inspired me to do more and follow our common passion.

Thank you so much for watching! The long-term goal is to start a week-long immersive historical program for youth in my retirement. I have gained ideas for that plan from Colonial Williamsburg, Martin's Station (both of which I believe are in VA?), and Prickett's Fort. Glad to have you along for this journey and honored to help inspire!

@@FrontierTradingCompany well your outfit looks great. There may be some little details some might question but I think you have done very well. Never be afraid to use your own research. Some will always be happy to say x isn’t right, and you will learn new things, but some things folks might pick on you will be able to document. So my advice is keep learning. Do your own research and run with it.

New subscriber here. I got interested in the black powder lifestyle when I was given my first Hawken rifle in 1987. But it wasn’t until I got my first laptop computer that I started really studying the Fur Era, and pre-civil war American history. It is good to see young people such as yourself bringing this knowledge into the light of modern times. Crazy Horse predicted that the white man’s technology would destroy him, and the only ones who would survive would be the ones who remembered the old ways.

Thanks very much! I was on the OA ceremonies team for several summers, dressing in regalia and inducting other scouts. Each week at summer camp there was an "OA day" where members wore sashes and other clothing from OA events to show their pride/membership... on those days I would slip on the sash over my standard uniform to participate. Outside of that I met the minimum requirements for participation in the Order but never fully pursued it. I did make Eagle, though. My focus in scouting was always on history, and I fell in love with the Native American traditions and histories in my home state of Ohio.

@@FrontierTradingCompany My real name is Johnny Triplett. My family, the Wrights, Hatfields, Johnson's, Easteps ( changed name from Shadowforger), Adkins- I am missing a couple- we all came to America with John Washington. We were heretics in England- Rosecrucians-Freemasons- the Esteps were Roma Gypsies. Now some people accuse us of being pagans and deist but we are neither. My family first cemetery was Arlington. We named the town Alexandria because we are descended from Macedonian and later Roman Soldiers. We built the Cathedrals Exeter and Rosslyn the Sepulchre and the Tower of London. The Pope would force people from Italy and Albania and Romania to Western Europe. Thats why we call ourselves the people of the Eastern Star. The Star is the Macedonian Star burst which is a symbol of the Hittite Inanna and Roman Venus. It's a called the Vergin Sun. These people sincerely believed they were descendants of Venus and Heracles. There are a small handful of Freemasons left that know what I know. There on 10 Generations of graves of my kin in these mountains. They asked me on the census my ethnic background nationality. I said "American" and after a short argument they wrote down " American". My great nephew is 16 he always thought I was crazy. Him and his friends got their DNA tested. All 3 of them from different families in Mingo County were y Chromosome EV13: a paternal bloodline very rare in the British Isles but common among Italians, Albanians and Romanians. A famous genetic scientist named Spencer Wells wrote a book explaining the descendant of Hercules. He explained that people with y Chromosome EV13 are descended from a Thessalonian Greek King who was likely the man behind the myth of Heracles. Those boys listen to me a little more now. You know Mel Gibson had to get the Tripletts to sign off on Mr Wallace book and the Movie The Patriot. Francis Triplett was the militia commander called " The Patriot" of Cowpens. He forged rifles and he brought 167 long rifles to Cowpens. We married the Morgans lol So I am a direct descendant of Daniel Morgan too. My brother named Daniel Morgan Triplett. If I had million dollars I would give it to you to preserve American culture. But you know our culture is not popular these days.

Good video. I hope you keep it up. Here's a good read if you haven't seen it yet. people.virginia.edu/~mgf2j/clothes.html Have you ever read Nicholas cresswells journal? If not I recommend it. Joseph dodridges "notes on the settlements and Indian wars" is really good. I think both of them can be read for free on Google

@@FrontierTradingCompany That’s just fine. I’m glad You’ve liked the videos. I do a whole lot more than I make videos of. I don’t have a good camera and just use my cellphone. I’d probably do more if I did. If you have Facebook I sometimes post some things relative to the hobby/era. I’m out hunting small game almost every other weekend in period attire. Another good read is Daniel Trabue’s narrative. He helped keep the store at some forts and helped hunt for them as well. Has some great stories of the 1770s frontier.

@@nathanjeffery3059 I will add that one to the list, too! I shoot all my videos on an iPhone. In settings > camera I have turned up the quality to 4k. I believe this is an option on iPhones 6 and 6+ (2015 I think) and higher. It tasks a lot more space to record that way but it is much more cost effective during these college years.
