Yes, I think you'll find the basics of reverse engineering to be very similar regardless what you ultimately want to use it for. I personally don't do much, really any, game hacking but at the end of the day it's all software. If you understand how it works, you'll be able to apply reverse engineering to a wide range of activities to include malware analysis, vulnerability hunting and even game hacking

Architecture is probably more an important thing to consider right now if you're looking at arm or Intel for example. But even then, I think you'll find that there are just such fundamental concepts that cross all of them. Learning one will help you more easily learn others
