I like using Modo, and have tried out Maya and 3DS Max, Warren from your experience do the game studios let you use the software of your choice, or do they expect you to use what they have at their studios?

That's a HUGE "it depends". If a company has a pipeline established that relies, say, on Maya scripts to get art imported into their game then you may have no choice but to use Maya. But if not, I think most companies are pretty flexible these days about what you use. As long as you're producing a valid FBX on the other end, it's fine. And as a freelancer, it's never been an issue. Most times they don't even ask what I use.

I miss Modo, it's still the best modeler for sure but I just can't see the reason to pay $1600 for it when something like Blender 2.8 is free, updated constantly, and can handle a scene with more than a million polygons with ease. A ton of people are switching with that same mindset so I'm glad you're going to do more general things than Modo specific, cus your stuff in the past as helped me with Modo and ton.

Blender is an awesome app. If it does what you need, then free is a great price! :)
