This is very inspiring! Great demonstrations and explanations, and very cool looking tools! I think I'll have to try this. I've never done any mapping but I grew up playing Doom and Quake when they came out and am just starting to get back into playing them again. It's crazy to see how much things have changed since the 90s.

If you can Blender, it kind of makes TrenchBroom easier to get the feel for IMO. It did for me anyway. It gives a similar feeling in the 3D space. They're primitives in a WIP branch, so they will be making their way into a TrenchBroom official release eventually. TrenchBroom ships with a Tool UI that requires user setup, but makes external compile UI's not really needed for the most part unless you like to use q1compile's auto compile feature.

The blender export could open you up to features like making a hanging bridge that respect gravity, using blender simulation, in-fact I can think of a number of scenes that would look great if you simulated them first, and then exported them, like a pile of part/plates/gears from a broken machine. would help with immersion, sometimes you can see when things are physically impossible.

I don't necessarily agree with your premise, anger has an adaptive evolutionary purpose, i sincerely don't believe in repressing or controlling (over a certain extent) regulative emotions. And i also think that emotions are bad only if they make your life and behaviour dysfunctional, other than that emotions are generally neutral. You feel sad if you cannot pay the bills, your brain is telling you that something ain't right, you need to react and find a solution, your emotional state is perfectly aligned with the circumstances you find yourself in. Happiness won't be the right adaptive response in that specific case. Being always "happy" lead to self destructiion, emotions like anger or sadness serve a purpose, i won't even characterize them as bad, if they are useful for surviving they cannot be bad or negative in the firsr place. That said, I'm only talking about a balanced response, I'm not talking about over stressed and unbearable neurotical individuals, always angry for the most generic and valueless things. If your loved one leaves you for another man, anger is a great first step to metabolize the problem, we are not saints floating over the ground after all. The idea of not be bothered at all reminds me of some monks sleeping inside sheets full of bed bugs, they believe that if you are mentally strong enough you are not going to be bothered at all, it's all in your mind. I sincerely don't believe in it, i prefer to be really bothered, go out and buy some anti bed bugs spray or clean the sheets. It's okay to be angry.

While I like to see some coping mechanisms and mindfulness exercises among 3D artists, I hope that doesn't goes south into religious preachery like Arrimus tried to do a while ago. So keep up to it :) Edit: I also realised that I seem to stay most of the time in this state. Critic doesn't offend me, I just feel like I look at it from a third perspective if the critisizement holds any value or if I can gather more information from the feedback. I'm just to busy analysing to be offended by anything :D I summed it up as the ability to take critisizement not as insult but as a chance to improve, and I feel most people lack this ability.

@@WarrenMarshallBiz nice to hear I really like both of your contents :) And if I sound a bit rough, I want to apologize. We all can believe whatever we want, I support that. Only proselytizing people is something that crosses a line for me, especially since it isn't connected to the craft of 3d. Mindfulness on the other hand is something that effects everyone, wish you the best

Amazing video. Please make a video to teach people how they do not need to manually unwrap every asset and how to know which one should be manually unwrapped vs others that could be quickly done automatically to increase productivity. Many people have been led to believe, that they should manually UV everything out there.
@WarrenMarshallBiz
@WarrenMarshallBiz 2 ай бұрын
You know, I've been tempted to do exactly that. You can get away with a lot these days using automatic unwrapping and/or tri-planar textures. Not a bad idea!

This might not be the right place to bring up esoteric Buddhism haha - but you might find it interesitng that in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition what you are talking about is symbolized by the first of the primordial wisdom Buddha's Akshobhya - who takes the poison of anger and turns it into mirrorlike wisdom. He is also called "the immovable" because he can't be swayed or agitated by the aflictive emotion of anger.

I think this is exactly the place. Well, this playlist at least, haha ... That's great, thanks for that! I can't say as I'll ever reach the level of "the immovable" but I can try to get as close as I can manage. :)

As someone who struggles with anxiety and some of the examples you mentioned in particular, this is a very helpful and welcome video. It's a terrible habit that developed at some point that I always have to have an opinion about things that don't affect me or that I have no power over either. It's so much wasted energy and time that could be channeled into something much more positive than being angry about everything. Thanks again, Warren.

I want to put out a little word of caution -- while I don't necessarily disagree with this mindset, it could be easy to develop a sort of "superiority complex" or egotistical-pride if you start thinking "I don't need to care what others think because I'm so much better than them." I think as long as you don't do that this mindset might have some good merit. There is another way of looking at things that I would like to share -- recently I was feeling angry toward someone in an online argument, but I told myself to view the other person as "a friend who is just confused [about what the truth is]." I don't know if that made me feel better, but I think it's probably not a bad habit to get into. Thanks for making this video!
@WarrenMarshallBiz
@WarrenMarshallBiz 2 ай бұрын
I agree with you, honestly. It's really not about being superior or even feeling superior - it's about controlling your emotions so you can act rationally. Decisions driven by emotion are almost always sub-optimal in the long run. So my general push with this is that the sooner you can get to a calm mental state, the sooner you can make good decisions. Not allowing the world to dictate my mood to me provides a lot of mental freedom in my experience.

Hello, I'm a big fan of Quake 3 Arena, it was my first PC game that I bought with my own money, the large metal tin box. That game literally changed my life. I also love 3D modeling in Blender and Zbrush, I'm not an animator but I can do simple stuff. My dream ever since I was little was to create a playable character and Bot for Quake 3, I even made a character in Blender but I found no way to apply the Quake 3 "tags" (Head, Torso, Legs, Weapon) to the model. I tried exporting to really old software used back in the day but I could never get it to work. My question is, is there any way to use modern tools like Blender and export to the old Quake games? Or has this technology been lost to time? I have searched for years, and haven't found any way to export from Blender 2.8 and up. If you read this, thanks for your help!
@WarrenMarshallBiz

I remember that metal box, haha. I miss brick'n'mortar retail sometimes. Unfortunately, I'm not really a character guy so I don't know what people do with animated character meshes, sorry! I certainly know about static geometry which you can see in this video. And if there's a Blender addon to export level geometry I have to think there MUST be something for characters. Somewhere.
