I had been watching your channel for at least seven years or so. I'm still watching. You blew up KZbin! You pretty much set the ultra light backpacking boom off. Set a fire to the alcohol stove! So much on KZbin came from your ideas. Wondering where you been. Oh let alone the light weight tent. The heini pot! Lmao! Hope you are OK! Your definitely a icon. Love ya!

I don't even know how to begin to express my gratitude for your incredibly generous compliments Joanne. This is probably one of the best comments that I've ever received in my time here on KZbin! Hey John! So nice to see that you are "alive and kicking" (miles, nay sayers, kicking miles). I don't believe I've ever commented on a video in your channel before (sorry :( ), but something about this one screamed at me to do it, so here it goes. (Gotta say English is not my first language though, so it might hurt your eyes...) You don't owe us anything, really. You care enough to share your experiences, encourage us to "take a hike", and offer us some relief from routine and stress, and for that I'm thankful. I remember when I first saw your channel, this snowy adventure ( I'm from the tropics, Brazil to be more specific, so imagine all wows and awsss and yes, some expletives being said, just overwhelmed by the beauty that you captured and brought to us) and not for a second I thought about what goes on in your routine to film everything. I think that's the catch when you are on this side of the screen, we end up missing the human aspect of it. (Sorry again :( ) I guess life is this constant cycle of overdoing things and going back to basics, trying to find a balance in between, I sure hope you found yours. Thanks for everything that you shared, you were able to encourage me to go out hiking and surely made life easier with all of those tips, and lighter with all the laughs, and quieter with all those peaceful moments. But I'm even more thankful that you found yourself again and that this community can bring you some joy back and not this sense of responsibility, obligation even. Geez, now I'm rambling... Anyway, thanks for everything, good to hear that you're OK! Renata

At seventy, things things are slowing down but now I'm enjoy more in the outdoors; I've got a little hidden camp, now able to walk more comfortably with little pain and I'm able to lift weights again and loosing all the weight I gained in those off yeard. It's been a while since my wife and I have created a video of our adventures. Much for the same reason. We started out sharing cool stuff for our friends and family. But pretty soon it turned into a job instead just enjoying what we were doing. Pretty soon everything was done for the video instead of the adventure. Stepping back we are also now back to a point of enjoyment. I'm glad you took the time to re-center yourself. Glad to see you back!

John, I'm so glad you are well. You refer to this as a community. I agree. Burning out is understandable and I applaud your ability to know when to step away. However, as a community, we came to care about you for more than just videos. You seem to be a really good guy. Your content costs us nothing. You can, obviously do as you please;but, a thirty second post or just a typed message to let us know you were ok would have been nice. I was concerned for you. I am disappointed that you didn't let us know you were ok.

Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to update us. I feel like I can speak for everyone, except Joe Shmoe, when I say it's cool to take a break if you need it. I've seen the difference in video quality on other channels when KZbinrs make content because they enjoy it, versus making it out of obligation. Don't feel like you owe us a video; we're just along for the ride. Have fun, and we all will too. PS: I think it would be a cool "series" if you revisited old subjects from videos and tried to redo the projects. It'd be enlightening to get a kind of commentary from you and maybe some new ways to improve on designs. Just a thought...

Glad to see you again John. I always shied away committing to produce a video each week or whatever. I make them as I learn about a new location, or have a DIY project that may be of interest to the outdoor community. I think this approach has kept me from burning out, but it is normal for me to go a month or two without a video and then put out a few. I'm looking forward to seeing you (and Kato) out again, but remember to just sit quietly in nature and take it all in: sights, sounds, smells. Your batteries need charging as much as your cameras. Take care, Doogie

Good to see you back John. I could sense your dilemma or discomfort in some of your last videos. It wasn't a huge red flag, but from my view point I could see something pulling on you. Again, it's totally cool you are back and look forward to seeing your new content. Side story: My lack of videos and absolute defiance to get caught up in FaceGramInstaTwit, is because I am more of a go out and do it and relive it in my mind over and over, and then build my next adventure off that one. I then have something to talk about around the water hole, or campfire instead of the indirect contact with the world. Although I fully respect and embrace those that take the added time to set up cameras, edit and post up on KZbin for others (including myself) to live vicariously through, it's just not me. I have one adventure video posted, and that experience of sitting down to edit for hours really took the wind out of my sail of ever becoming a KZbin sensation. I can't do it, just can't. So, from the bottom of my gut I just want to say to you John, you've made some incredible videos over the years and I hope to see more of them. Take a break every now and again to regain what you need to to keep going if that is what it takes. If most of you subs are like me, we will stick around and be ready for whatever you bring to life for us. If you keep some adventures to yourself, more power to you brother! Thanks again for your great content!
