#VINYL #musicroom #records
Interested in being on a future episode of Vinyl Dens? Please send your submission to channel33rpm@gmail.com. Make sure to include 6 to 8 clear, well-lit and in-focus photos of your space and gear, including long shots and close ups (horizontal photos are better than vertical).
Also include a bit about yourself (name, age, where you live, how long you have been collecting), a bit about your gear, and information about your room (where in your home it is located, how you put it together, special considerations, cool features, etc).
I will do my best to get as many rooms as possible on future episodes; however, please note I do get more submissions than I have time to show. All types of music rooms welcome. Thanks!

Definitely, the secret to having a big, impressive record collection is not selling it off in the 90s to buy Cds. Some nice rooms there. I do worry about flooding basements though (and that's where I have my collection). The guy across the road from me lost his collection in a basement flood, just before I moved into the neighborhood. It's the scourge of the record collector.

Yes, basement flooding is a nightmare for any record or vintage electronics collector (or to any collector that uses a basement to display his or her items). One thing I can suggest is to keep the most valuable or treasured records at least a foot above the ground, so place them on higher shelves and if necessary, put the dollar bargain records on the ground shelves to reduce the potential losses in the event of a flood. Another suggestion I have is on Amazon one can buy (just as I have) an inexpensive water leak detector that runs on batteries (like a smoke detector) and you place it near your water heater (the mostly like thing to leak in a basement other than a washing machine or external flooding), so if any water leaks, it will run underneath the detector which immediately sets off an alarm sound. If at home, that might buy you some time to call a plumber or water heater specialist, to shut off the water supply yourself, or to clear out part of your collection until help arrives.

Man I wish I had pictures of my grandfather's vinyl collection, his stereo setup, reel to reel collection and all of the other music related items...he was truly the inspiration for my love of music and the arts... when my grandfather passed away he donated his entire collection to Stanford University, were he went to college and received his doctorate in education...the estimated value of his collection and equipment was something around a million dollars...the vinyl count was around 8k albums from the 40's all the way to early 90's, everything from jazz, blues, rock, some old school country, really a diverse range of albums...some epic memories were had sitting on the floor and listening to music... I hope to recreate my own version of his collection in the near future...

I’m thoroughly jealous of these rooms. I share my music space in my wife’s office. So, I’m relegated to a single wall. I had to choose between my vinyl collection or my CD collection to keep in there. Obviously, I went with the vinyl. Boxed all of my CDs and put them in the attic. It’s a small space. But, I make due.

If you were a teen for most of the 80's like I was, few things were cooler than having a friend who lived in a house with a "finished" basement. That's what we called them in Chicago and they generally looked the same...wood paneling on the walls, drop ceiling, some furniture, glass block windows, and a HiFi system. If there happened to be a TV, VCR & an Atari or ColecoVision, or a pool table, or a fireplace as well, then so much the better. The more stuff meant the longer you stayed. All ya needed was a pizza to complete the picture. On a winter 🥶 day a finished basement was the perfect place to be on a Friday night or Saturday unless you were at the mall or the roller rink, but I digress. A cool basement was its own huge world, and the answer is yes, if I had a basement, there would be wood paneling and old furniture down there... but that's just me.

OMG!!! Ethan has the exact same make and model (Panasonic) 8-track player that I do! I bought mine in the 1970's at KMart. Whoo-hoo! Terry's homemade cabinets really rock, in all senses of the word. GREAT segment, Frank! Vinyl Dens are one of my favorite parts of Channel 33.

Cheers from Mumbai, India. Very sumptuous video showcasing some awsome pictures of vinyl collectors. I just resumed the vinyl journey after two decades of dormancy spread across Indian music including Hindustani, Carnatic, Ghazals, Indian folk music and of course Bollywood. Going across to the western side, its classical music of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and many others, Pop music, jazz and a few of the music from other parts of the world such as Japanese flute and folk music from Africa. I discovered that I do have quite a few albums of Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, Pat Boone, Elvis and Nat King Cole (among others). Nat King Cole singing the tracks of the movie My Fair Lady is a MUST listen ! Need to acquire Chuck Berry (whose music I simply adore) and of course Ray Charles. With a large collection of books (I am a mathematician) in a room which is simultaneously a study room cum music room, CDs, Vinyl and Books are arranged along with mechanical clocks punctuating time with its musical strokes. Walls decorated with some posters of Tycho Brahe's Uraniborg. The set up isn't quite complete and need to custom make a wooden cabinet for vinyls with glass doors since tropical countries have to cope with problem of dust more rigorously. Thanks for putting up this video. I am sharing the links with many of my students. I do enjoy watching your channel.

I was a bit too young for vinyl, but did grow up buying and collecting CD’s. I was one of those people who got rid of their collection when everything moved online. A waste of an amazing collection and my time. Back on track with my vinyl collection. Cool rooms. My system and collection is just part of my living room. I’m jealous

My favorites were Albert’s (especially the Stones section & all the sports memorabilia scattered around the room with his music) and Darren’s basement. Living in California, no one has basements out here, but I sure wish I did. Darren’s listening/party room is fantastic. Thank you for this excellent video & giving me so ideas on how to rearrange my office.

I love seeing how other people enjoy music as much as I do and are ready to go above and beyond to create a space to enjoy and experience music. Those home made record bins are great too. I went with Kallax shelves for my burgeoning collection, but wish sometimes I could flip through them. When it's bigger I'll have to get one or two for a "Currently Listening To" group

Finishing up watching a few days later! What can I say? I've been busy! Records are a "hi definition " media, that's a FACT and has been proven over and over! That's the "different" sound or "warmth" (part of it anyway) people talking about! I don't have a problem with CDs because I still play and buy em,😊but they don't have that kind of fidelity!

(even before this "crazy" vinyl comeback) ... i stopped buying cds and re-begun buying vinyl ... when i realised in early 2000's that i was listening more MP3 music than my cds ... so i started to buy vinyl for collecting and listen and listening mostely Mp3 ... eheheh ... but like i was saying i get a bit JEALOUS for this "music" rooms ... cause i dont have a dedicated room for it ... i listen the music in my living room ... and my collection is divided through my house ... so lucky you guys ... GRRRrrrrrr .... lol ... i really enjoy see it ... and i get so msny times inspired in some storage solutions .. great! Greetings from PORTUGAL Filipe

I've offed and rebuilt a couple of collections. The CDs are gone for good, less a small box containing my original collection from the 90's. I purged a collection of pop and house records, then began a new collection of various genres that I add to every few weeks. It's hard to justify buying vinyl, considering the state of the world and the value of money. Moved on to collecting boutique synthesizers. It has become imperative that I sample some amount of vinyl in my arrangements, but usually routed through some sound processing effect. Our current home accommodates the best music room I've had to date.

I've heard so much about her early band through the years. It sounds like that copy you got was right after the early members of the Eagles left to form that band? I hate that argument that goes, which would you rather have, a massive collection you never listen to, or a few that you listen to a lot. How about this: I have a lot of records and albums, some of which I listen to a lot, and some of which I don't. Not sure why it always has to be so black and white. Just because someone has a massive collection, it doesn't mean they never listen to any of them. For me, if you only have a couple hundred, there are so many great albums you're missing out on.

1- Was watching this video and it was reported by KZbin as taken off by its up loader which it's a strange thing of and by itself for your 33 1/3 spinning channel from Canada wasn't known for doing that , but who knows now with ''Castro's offspring'' in charge very weird things in social media and otherwise SEEm to be happening, indeed. 2- But what a disappointment this was,. Got as far as watching Julianne and Ethan ,who got into it recently, and Tony and the Cuban who is from Alberta, or is he Al, 58 years old , or there about 9 months ago (at the time this comment is being written ) with his set up , guitars, number 13 Dan Marino and CR7 posters (LIONel Messi being the GOAT though; and now playing for a Miami team to boot , pun intended of course) and his ''criminally undercharged'' record players (your words though, since jealousy is a bad thing but fakenews is worse. Just kidding, and no pun intended too) whom for sure soon , Al the Cuban that is, as it gets too cold above the Florida-Georgia line he'll be Cummings to Florida , like everyone else ; you too old basement dweller of a goat, since after all is said and done those dark basements , filled with records or not, Aelways end up flooding Canada included Two. 3- Say hello to my cousins in Alberta, and have yourself and yours a Happy New Year 2024, God willing and the elites heeding to His will , FOR THERE IS NO OTHER WAY, believe you me...Shema!!!.

How could someone get rid of whatever format they’ve spent years and money on just because it’s out of favor. I’ve been collecting cassettes, records, CDs, VHS, DVDs, Blu-ray, Laser Discs, books, magazines, posters, and memorabilia since my early teens (mid 80s). I know what your saying tough. I have a couple of these sellout friends who have all their CDs and records in their garage. I tell them straight to their face that it’s a disgrace and Im there to save themselves from themselves by saying this. They won’t listen tough they have the minimalist mindset. Same people who think someone at a red light think their cool because they drive a stupid ass Tesla.

Its all about how the room sounds, not what it looks like. I dare to guess that the majority of those will be pretty poor sounding acoustically.

@@albertmorales6342 And how am I supposed to do that. I have 18 inches deep treatment on my front and back walls, with Quadratic and Binary diffusion. 8 inch panels at 1st and 2nd reflection points with Binary slats, further panels where needed, all hand made by myself and a large suspended cloud also 8 inches deep, also made by myself. Like I say, its not what it looks like (i.e these videos) Its what it sounds like that counts.
