Dude I have a friend I met in WoW who speaks fluent French, English, Russian, Spanish, and mandarin. He said it was solely to understand most of his guild members and is 68 now. Dude catches almost anything said, however wasn't very good at raiding, made him try healer which worked well for him and our raiding team became a top progression team in the server at number 2.
