Denis Healey in 1976, Norman Lamont in 1992 and Kwasi Kwarteng today - chancellors all forced to reverse course by the markets.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Now with Kwasi Kwarteng sacked and the mini-budget lacerated, can the government survive?

TRUTH today is just like swearing always was. Not allowed! Truth is the most unfashionable thing on earth today. People really do hate truth. But TRUTH is all anyone should care about. Truth like this. Today we see, and we endlessly hear, all western governments accusing Putin of absolutely everything, anything at all! Tomorrow it will just be something else! - Yet we also know we're being led by the worst and most criminal governments we've ever seen before, today. So why do we see anyone paying any attention to this obvious propaganda, and these really juvenile attempts to demonize Russia and Putin? I mean, it's not difficult for anyone to see the TRUTH? Let's just look at the reality? But is truth really that out of fashion today? Truth I see! When Putin came to power in 2000, Russia was as deep in the toilet as they could have been, the economy was smashed to pieces and had completely broken down, many of the people were starving to death, and many Russian resources had been illegally sold off in corrupt CIA led auctions. We have all watched Russia improve massively, we have watched him rebuild the country, we've seen him doing all the things we all really know we should have been seeing from our own governments? Fighting against the terrorism in Syria, and most certainly not creating it! Putin's done everything right, and he's done it transparently and well within international law. It's only these uneducated and propaganda led fools that have no idea about any of this. The Russians know, they all understand this perfectly, and with all they've been through so many times throughout recent history, surely, if any society could select you a great leader, it must be them? Let's just go back and look at Russia throughout the 1990s?, and then look again from 2000, to today? Tell me, just how could anyone fail to recognize what Putin really has achieved for Russia? How is it possible for anyone not to understand this? The truth really is, there is nobody throughout our modern history whose ever taken a country that had collapsed from a leading global superpower, to a country on its knees, a broken corrupted nightmare of a country, that had been dilapidated to the point the people were starving to death and who all felt they had no hope! - - To within 20 years, taking that country, improving that country, and leading that country to once again become a leading global power sitting at the top table, with a society who've seen their dream answered, who all have so much hope again today, that are all working, earning again, and whose country has seen improvement after improvement right across all areas. There simply is nobody from any time in history that's got even remotely close to achieving all that Putin has for Russia, and that's the truth and reality. Anyone who wants to argue? Only need to name these other Great leaders, they must believe have done anything close to all Putin has? And while knowing all that, I have to say, it's impressive for sure. Then I think about it again, only this time while recognizing all the Illegal sanctions we placed on Russia, (for no reason), and while recognizing the truth, and while understanding what he has had up against him through every day of it? I can only see a great man, that's being demonized by the worst, most criminal, terrorist supporting leaderships, the west has ever seen. But nobody else thinks like I do, and that's awesome. All I say, is, when you're speaking the truth, no matter if you’re the only one speaking the truth, you'll always be right, while the others (regardless of how many) will always be wrong. Simple logic. We have one of today.

Down here in Australia were are six months into a Labor government after 12 years of our own version of the Tory Party. The new boys are finding billions of dollars in rorts, grants to political mates, massive wastage and economic mismanagement. The savings are going into pensions, defence and healthcare. What you need in the UK is a bit of the same, and only a party with a social agenda will do it. Of course, the problem is also Brexit, and the transfer of Europes financial services hub from London to The Hague. This is whats behind the crash in the Pound and there are also a lot of UK financial institutions on the brink because they they lived off Russian oligarch money. Thats stopped too.

@@cup1966wow agreed. The price cap should just be lowered. Never more than 8% of average local income. More importantly, that price cap shouldn't be subsidised by taxes for us to pay later (As Liz has done).. it should simply be enforced. The market is worth enough for this to work. The profits would still be very healthy because the cost of extraction has steadily declined, as demand has gone up, for decades. The premiums companies have been earning are more than enough to r+d renewables and get that started, too.

Let's hope there's a 5th, because the working class won't be able to stand much from policies made by the likes of Jeremy Hunt. He'll just find new ways to craftily impose more austerity on us, lower taxes for the rich, and do his best to sell off as much of the NHS as possible before the next general election (no doubt, in exchange for a measly 1p income tax cut for those lucky enough to have jobs). Considering the last Labour government didn't reverse the damage done to the NHS by years of Thatcher and Major deconstruction - I'm not all that sure that the next Labour government would be capable or willing to restore what damage Hunt has probably planned already. 2 years is a long time to wait for an election. He can do a lot of irreparable damage before then.
