Trump strikes tariff deal with Mexico but will he target EU next?

President Trump has worked out one deal - with Mexico, which has rapidly deployed troops to the border, in exchange for a delay on America's threatened tariffs.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
But Mr Trump has doubled down on his threats against the EU, saying they have chosen tariffs because of the bloc's tax rules.
He also hinted there could also be a deal with the UK, although Sir Keir Starmer would say only that "intense US-EU discussions are planned".

People generally buy a lot of American stuff. United States doesn't complain about lack of iPhone sales or Microsoft Windows Licences. The problem with American cars are that they are so bulky and unsuited to European roads. Europeans also don't like pickup trucks.

Ask a mechanic. Even a US one. American vehicles are sub standard engineering these days. The US autoworkers unions were on strike much of 2024 partly because the quality of the product is so bad. Germany and Japan are the largest exporters of vehicles globally and have lead the way in global motorsport events for decades. WRC, F1, Lemans prototypes. None are US made. The Cyber truck isn't even legal for the UK market. Its failed many safety factors. Even the lights fail European regulations. Tesla is facing several hundred pending court cases in the US regarding the Cyber truck. Whereas China's BYD models are now the fastest selling EV range globally and at a better price.

Go TRUMP, i hope some of the trade-war does escalate and incentivizes business to come back! hopefully slowly and not in the trump style way. BUT the strategy will ultimately work. Tariffs will increase costs of finished goods and components used throughout US manufacturing. This will be an immediate and huge hike in inflation. Why the U.S. Outperforms the EU in Economy and Quality of Life 1. Economic Superiority of the U.S. A. Higher GDP and Growth Rate • Total GDP (2024): • United States: ~$29.17 trillion • European Union: ~$19.40 trillion • → The U.S. economy is ~1.5 times larger than the EU’s. • GDP Growth (2010-2023): • U.S.: +34% • EU: +21% • → Faster economic expansion in the U.S. leads to more wealth creation and job opportunities. B. Higher GDP per Capita • U.S.: ~$67,426 • EU: ~$45,541 • → Americans generate and consume more wealth per person, translating to higher living standards. C. More Business-Friendly Environment • Fewer regulations and lower corporate taxes attract more investment. • Easier access to venture capital fuels innovation. • EU struggles with excessive bureaucracy, making entrepreneurship harder. D. Global Innovation & Technology Leadership • The U.S. dominates industries like AI, software, electric vehicles, space, and finance. • Top U.S. tech giants: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia. • The EU lags in global innovation, struggling to produce major tech companies. E. Energy Independence • U.S.: Massive domestic oil & gas production → Lower energy costs. • EU: Relies on imports from Russia & Middle East → Vulnerable to price shocks. 2. Higher Quality of Life in the U.S. A. Higher Wages and Purchasing Power • U.S. wages are higher on average, with a stronger spending capacity. • The U.S. has lower VAT (sales tax), while EU VAT can reach 25%. B. Better Housing & Space • Average home size in the U.S.: ~2,200 sq. ft. • Average EU home size: ~1,000 sq. ft. • Lower population density in the U.S. allows for larger homes, bigger roads, and more green space. C. Faster and More Advanced Healthcare • U.S. healthcare has shorter wait times than in many EU countries. • The U.S. leads in medical research, new drug development, and advanced surgeries. • EU healthcare is universal but has long wait times and rationed services. D. Job Market Flexibility & Higher Mobility • U.S.: Easier hiring & firing process → More job creation and flexibility. • EU: Strict labor laws → Harder to find work & fewer job opportunities. E. Lower Personal Tax Burden • U.S. individual income tax: ~10-37% • EU individual tax rates: Often 50%+ in high-income countries like France, Germany, and Sweden. • EU workers lose more income to taxes and social contributions. Conclusion • Economy: The U.S. is larger, growing faster, and more innovative than the EU. • Living Standards: Higher wages, homeownership, healthcare quality, and job flexibility. • Taxes & Regulation: The EU has a higher tax burden and more bureaucracy.

She told him that it would take a month to evaluate how it was developing and that the president of Mexico asked him to stop arms trafficking to Mexico and he accepted, he committed to stop arms trafficking but he did not say it, nor mention it. He does not want to appear weak to the world. To the president of Mexico when he committed to her requests to stop arms traffic to Mexico and he committed.

Canadian here, Martin Donnelly permanent secretary of international trade said it’s important to look for win/win situations with America. Sadly Trump is not interested in win/win situations, he sees a world of only winners and losers. In his mind if he doesn’t win then he’s lost. That along with his erratic nature, love of chaos and fragile ego is what makes it so difficult to negotiate with him. In the end what he cares about are his rich donors and the stock market. He paused the tariffs on Canada only once the market had opened down and his donors were angry with him…..
