As an Englishman, I feel thoroughly ashamed at how we are currently lagging so far behind our progressive Scottish neighbours. Good on you Mhairi, and the rest of the SNP members - you're putting the Labour Party to shame.

Pleased to see so many positive comments from so many English people. You need to know, understand and educate so many of your fellow countrymen who think that we hate you - we absolutely do not, as I'm sure most of you reading this will realise. Most of us have friends and family who are English, or friends or family who live in England. We don't wish any badness to befall you. We support pretty much all of your athletes competing internationally, apart of course from your football teams, we'd support Iraq playing against them. I've lived in England for a year or so, and worked in and out of England from Scotland about 50% of my working life. I've never had any problems there at all really, always found people to be professional and friendly. My son lived in England for years too, in York. I think he really liked the place. I found it pretty charming too, despite facing legal execution by bow & arrow. Mhairi Black's maiden speech was absolutely sensational. Words spoken with passion for the well-being and representation for so many people whose voices are utterly unheard and totally unrepresented and have been for decades. Words for people who are now finally being sacrificed to death by starvation, by some right-wing policy sell off French quango murderers called ATOS, which isn't being entirely ignored by the Tory party. Ian Duncan Smith is currently refusing to bow to a 1/4 million signatory or so petition to release figures of how may have died directly after having their "Benefits" (such as misnomer) sanctioned. This is surely the greatest scandal in recent British history? Is it hundreds? Is it thousands? Of British citizens basically starved to death/suicide!?!? We need to know the body count. We need to know who made the key decisions. We need to prosecute them to the full extent of the law. We don't need this to take as long as Hillsborough has taken to come close to a righteous and just ending. That this isn't the number one story in all of the newspapers, on TV, and the lips of every politician, all of the time smacks of a very nasty conspiracy indeed. Tony Blair stole the Labour Party and moved it centre-right and with catastrophic mismanagement, utterly destroyed the soul of the Labour Party, forever. As Tony Benn and Mhairi Black would put it "there are weather-cocks and signposts". Well Tony Blair was tumble-weed for the Labour Party. I think they need another total revolution, or better a new left-wing party to evolve to replace them and steal their (our) identity back. About time we had some real left-wing politicians, speaking with passion, and ripping into the proto-fascist state that Britain is becoming. And better still, engineer a way for Scotland's Independence to happen.

MinceCFC I am English born but have lived in Scotland for 35 years. From my experience in Scotland the SNP do the most damage to Scots reputation regarding the English. A joke of a party that just blames Westminster for everything, Lies about Scotland's assets (Jimmy Krankie Sturgeon overestimated Scotlands Oil revenue by as much as £34 Billion pounds over 20 years. Thats £68000 per head of population . £3,400 per year. And she wants fiscal control of the Scottish economy! Are you kidding! I've nothing against this young girl. But I wouldn't trust the SNP to run a church fete, Let alone a country. A party of Liars, Bigots, Hypocrites. I despair that this shower could probably eventually win independance. If the Scottish people don't wake up and realise that a vote for the SNP is NOT a vote for Scotland. Unless your vision for Scotland is a highly taxed independant minnow country with no clout, nothing to bargain with and a leader who seems to have no clue about how an economy works I blame labour for being a shower of shit as well. That's how this has happened. No way Scotland would vote Tory. So the nationalists got all the votes from the void. So looks like we're stuck with the Tories in power, The only thing worse is SNP running Scotland

Labour just isnt what it should be anymore. There used to be a clear distinction between them and the Conservatives but they are seriously just red tories now. Scotland doesnt want them, thats for sure! Have you seen Ed Miliband arriving in Glasgow? Its brilliant!

@HexJamXXX9 жыл бұрын
I tell ya, when Labour finally get kicked out of the north you're going to see 50 years worth of cover-ups and corruption brought to light. It'll make Rochdale and Hillsborough look like Ed's bacon butty. Labour and the unions control the press in the north, they're shit scared to say a thing against them, but even so they can't stop people posting pro-UKIP stuff in the comments sections and the numbers are a growing...

There 650 members of parliament and only 56 of them come from the SNP. Everytime I watch the chamber these days it is packed with SNP though and the other benches are sparse. This is despite the SNP MPs having to travel from constituencies many times the distance than most of the UK party MPs. Shows exactly why the SNP are dominating these days. They actually care.

What a remarkable young woman. Intelligent. articulate, witty and incredibly self possessed. She's passionate and honest as well. Our young people need more role models like this instead of vapid celebrities. What she said was totally spot on, it's so long since we've heard honesty like this in parliament.

What a blinding speech! I wish that I could vote for her, but I live in a tiny red spot in the south of tory England (Soton Test) and cannot do so. I just hope that she sticks to the principles expressed in her speech, and is not corrupted by the cess pit that is Westminster. She, and her party are the best hope for clipping the tories wings...the Labour party are currently not in a position to defend the NHS etc.
@swishgod66239 жыл бұрын

Sheechiibii Fox and why would the tories need thier wings clipped? You must be looking at Athens and feeling envious of their awesomeness. How would you sort out our deficit? Incase you dont know, that means that our country is spending more every year that we collect. Its unsustainable and something has to be done or we go bankrupt. So, what is the great socialist plan you believe in that will save us?? Spend and borrow? Take from the driven and give to the lazy?? Or do we stand up to the lazy and say "no, in this country you earn your way and everyone has a use"
@Sheechiibii9 жыл бұрын
smcg i wouldn't take from people who need help, who have worked and paid taxes their whole lives and deserve help when they need it. I hope you never become disabled or are unable to find work, because then you'll be one of the 'lazy' people who are starving to death thanks to the tories. How would i sort out the deficit? I'd start by giving less money to people who won't die without it. Taxes are meant to go towards helping society, not lining the pockets of tories and their banker friends.
@darkglobe93989 жыл бұрын
smcg so why must the poorest bare the brunt of the deficit they didn't cause it bsnkers did, what a society that blames the poor fot being poor, trust me Scotland will be independent within 10 years, will do well & england can wallow in austerity & stop comparing the "UK" with Greece its ridiculous tory spin (ie lies)

if you are so "virtuous" why don't you spend your own money on the poor and jobless? Its easy to virtue signal and say "we need to do more for the poor" when you are spending SOMEONE ELSES MONEY
@RihannaIsIluminati6 жыл бұрын
We have a government that we all pay taxes to whose job it is to provide services and benefits to maintain a certain standard of living for every citizen in our society. We ALL benefit from government systems in one way or another. We ALL benefit from “someone else’s money” in one way or another. This argument fundamentally comes from a place of selfishness and greed. We can not afford to live in a society where so many people who work so hard live in squalor while the ultra-wealthy live like kings. It. Is. Not. Right.

Mhairi leaving her role is understandable, entirely, yet it is still terribly depressing. Integrity is rare, except with this one, seaping from every pore. This speech is beautifully articulate, funny, emotional, deep, meaningful. I hope Mhairi can recover, recuperate and come back swinging once more. The strength of conviction in her character is extremely moving and motivating. It hurts to know the system wore her down so thoroughly, though likely because she is capable of actual feeling; empathetic paralysis ❤
