Again, like I said to the Nostalgia Critic upon his review - had you all have done your research about the “Supergirl” movie’s history, you’d see it was originally intended as “Superman III”. The plan was to have Brainiac find Kara’s ship (upon being sent away from Krypton’s Argo City sector and just floating around space), and after taking in an amnesic Kara, he trains her overtime into thinking she needs to take out his number one nemesis Superman. Brainiac fashions a costume similar to Superman’s as she’s sent to Earth to lure Superman to Brainiac (his skull ship in cloaking mode orbiting Earth), but when Superman uncovers the plan, both cousins are now deep into a fight over Metropolis and Supergirl only relents on continuiing their fight when she sees (1) she‘s endangering people, and (2) was actually used by Brainiac upon her observing with Superman Brainiac’s true agenda was to take over Earth itself - starting with his shrinking of Metropolis City (up to then, Brainiac has hid his true evil nature from her the whole time). Supergirl teams up with Superman to stop it and after successfully doing so, she expresses sincere remorse for wanting to take down Superman. Both at a later point are shocked to learn in his Fortress of Solitude when Jor-El’s 3D holographic head reveals they’re actually cousins with Zor-El having been Jor-El’s brother. The movie was intended to spin-off into Supergirl’s own - and that was different then what you all got in the U.S. Theatrical Cut. The original plan for Kara’s movie was intended to be much, and I mean MUCH darker than what we got. For example, Selena is not some ”upcomer Sorceress” but an established formidable one selected by dark forces to make the Earth habitable for them (they themselves can’t do it from their dimension), and starting with taking out the champion of goodness himself, Superman. Selena is instructed on the weapon to do this by is with the Kryptonian power source being the Omegahedron which has long since managed to make its way to Earth but is dormant. Selena with the assistance of Nigel in a battle against Superman manages to severely wound Superman where he’s now dying - and Superman hesitantly tasks Supergirl with protecting the Earth. The movie would then involve Selena happening to run into Ethan but she doesn’t fall in love with him yet sees this innocent bystander as being in her way, so she tries to kill him but Supergirl saves him. However, at one point, Selena finds out he’s alive and teleports to the hospital he’s at as she magically brings to life hospital machinery to kill him (Selena doesn’t forget those who stand in her way you see). The movie later then goes on to have Selena upon being confronted by a protester in Midvalle turn that very protestor into an ice sculpture and have her Army of the Night drive through it’s lifeless remains. Bianca as still that of her flat mate, but also now one of her loyal Army of the Night minions who is along for the ride. Towards the end of the movie, as Supergirl is trying to rescue her best friend Lucy Lane and her beau Jimmy Olsen, along with Nigel (having double crossed by Selena), the sorceress has a showdown with Supergirl as Selena transforms into a skeletal giant sized Griffin, but Supergirl unintentionally kills Selena in the final showdown. Supergirl ends up eventually using the power of the Omegahedron to cure Superman of the magically inflicted ailing health, and from there her movie was meant to have two other instalments. Now, allegedly, the PTB at Warner Bros. at the time deemed the original script too dark fearing it was treading on “Poltergeist“ movie rating territory, so demanded a rewrite, and then another after that (the original plan was to have Dolly Parton play Selena but she declined as Faye Dunaway was then recast in the role). Christopher Reeve allegedly eventually got fed up with the lengthy delays of the movie’s production (come his cameoing in it) so exited all together. The movie‘s script as such ended up being salvaged as the Theatrical Cut release you lot got in America, but with bits and pieces of the original intended script used. The offical novel adaption released around the time of the movie managed to salvage some (not all) of the original proposed script in it. The movie also was released in different cuts upon its release in different countries. Some (not all) of those cuts were later released in DVD format in the late ‘90s by Anchor Bay which helped further flesh out the plot in both extended scenes and deleted scenes restored. “Supergirl” movie actually has an underground cult following (a lot of the fans at the time were active on IMdB message boards) , and it’s seen as a gem of its time by a lot still who grew up with it (especially on video release at the time).

The thing about bad action movies in the 80's is the action is just so slow. 0:20 Don't worry, Doug - with all the reboots she's had, _no one_ really knows anything about Supergirl anymore.

It feels like a glitch in the matrix somehow but I was so sure nostalgia critic reviewed this movie years ago - it has always been perfect material.

That was Lindsay Ellis in her Nostalgia Chick days. Feels like a lifetime ago.

My biggest question is why a sexually forward woman needed to resort to magic to seduce a college guy after she already got him to have a drink with her in her cougar den.

Even though there could have been more fight/action super power scenes, I still love this movie. The part where Supergirl bursts through the water and into the sky is such a terrific shot. Helen Slater is so beautiful. I love her flying, it's so graceful. The music is awesome! I love the villian Selena and her companion I find them both comedic and funny lol.

Tammie bursting through water? You can see the wire pulling her up during that scene

@@wbbrighamvideography So what? They couldn't do digital wire removal in 1984. Back in the day we had a little thing called "suspension of disbelief", and judged movies on qualities other than their special effects.

@@wbbrighamvideography I couldn't see it, and so what , it's not like they meant to do that.

Doug wants the villain to have a villain name and gives shit to Doctor Doom? Double standard! JK Love ya, Doug.

I saw Supergirl I thought it was OK but I wish the 80s adapted the squadron supreme, the silver surfer, booster gold, blue beetle or even the justice league in live action!

The thing that stuck with me about this movie was an 80s diet coke ad that aired during a commercial

I've been watching you guys for years separately and it's so cool to finally watch a video with both of you together. That sounded creepy, didn't it?

1:32 Speaking of Barbie fairytales, when are you guys gonna look at Barbie in the Nutcracker? Yet another stranger adaptation of the story, while also being much more enjoyable (and normal) than Nutcracker 3D. I mean, Tim Curry voices the Mouse King in this movie so that right there should get you on board! 😊

I remember RedLetterMedia describing Supergirl as innocent in the way your grandparents dropping a racial slur is innocent, they just didn’t know any better and it’s not worth correcting them.
