I love how Keaton even came up with Betelgeuse’s look himself, just showing up to set one day fully made up in character with everyone cheering him on. Mossy clothes, moldy face, and looking as though he had “jammed his thumb in a light socket” were all Keaton’s ideas!

Another awesome fact about this film is: When Beetlejuice was screened for a test audience, they responded so positively to the Keaton’s Betelgeuse that Burton’s team went back to create an upbeat epilogue for the character. An earlier draft had Betelgeuse plagued by sandworms in the Maitlands’ model town.
@animeknight8958
@animeknight8958 2 жыл бұрын
here's four more facts about the film. 1. It was original meant to be a full-blown horror film with Sammy Davis Jr as Beetlejuice. 2. In the original ending, Lydia stays with Barb and Adam and lives in the model with them. 3. When Adam left the house and found himself on Saturn, the original idea was that it was a dark room with giant gears. 4. After Adam and Barb hide themselves outside the window, it was supposed to show them in Saturn and nearly attacked by the sandworm.

The reason why Lydia is wearing a red dress is based on the old rhyme "Married in white, you will have chosen all right. Married in grey, you will go far away. Tim Burton is a master at putting horror on the razor thin edge of kid and adult without going too far. He's found that wacky crazy balance that just makes him a genius in the genre. Truth is, kids like dark humor just as much as adults, I mean, how many kids do you know that DIDN'T bite the head off an animal cracker and laugh or make a joke about it? For me, not one, every kid I have ever met has done that at least once.

According to Michael Keaton, the Beetlejuice character was described to him by director Tim Burton as "having lived in every time period but no time period." Keaton used this as the jumping-off point to create the character with such features as a shock hairdo, mold make-up, and large teeth. He said that when he first showed up to the set as Beetlejuice, the crew was chanting: "Juice, Juice, Juice!" This got Keaton excited for his role.

When it comes to the question as to why the Maitlands look normal and not like ghouls, I view it as they're pure of spirit. The afterlife receptionist even said it's all very personal. The only reason they're not soaking wet(other than when they got home) is because even though they left the house, in spirit they are stuck in the same place. Especially with how much they hate what the changes Delia made to the house.

@@_Zephster that's another way of looking at it. I more so was talking about how the other ghost show the signs of the what happened to them and how in the Maitlands case, in spirit they never left the house. It also depends on the person and how they lived. Beetlejuice looks rotten because he is, same with the afterlife workers, it also serves as a slight punishment since afterlife workers committed suicide("if i knew then, what i know now, I wouldn't have had my little accident.").

I watched Beetlejuice countless times as a kid. My parents loved the movie and didn't seem to care that I wanted to watch it too. There are parts in the movie that are always going to be stuck in my head. The dinner scene with The Banana Boat Song and Lydia singing Jump in the Line with the ghosts of the Football team on the stairs for example. As my parents were very strict on what movies we were allowed to watch, I’m lowkey shocked that I was ever allowed to watch Beetlejuice, but we watched it together back in the day and I loved it! My parents recently went through a “what’s an older movie the younger kids haven’t seen yet” phase (there’s a lot of us, ok😅) and Beetlejuice was one of the movies they watched. I was again surprised by this cuz my parents are still super nitpicky about content and scary stuff, but they watched it together and the kids enjoyed it! It’s a little mind boggling but Beetlejuice has that sense of childlike imagination and sense of realness that’s still entertaining today, so much so that even my parents will dust it off now and then.

This movie was basically my Batman '89, and by that I mean this was the movie I felt like I was much older and mature to watch despite being 6 or 7. I knew it was dark, but cool. Even while something like Dora was on TV, I would get pissed and pop the VHS of Beetlejuice on instead. And the one I had was the "family cut" from the late 90s, I didn't get to hear the infamous "Nice fucking model!" line until I was a teenager and was shocked it was in the film. I thought it was a blooper. It would be cooler to also watch it on an October night because this was my Halloween movie I would watch besides Casper, James and the Giant Peach or Nightmare Before Christmas. I definitely feel like a sequel isn't needed, I thought the TV show was the true sequel and I really wanna watch the musical because I heard so much stuff and heard some of the songs.
@nsasupporter7557
@nsasupporter7557 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, a sequel Is Unneeded. They really really need to stop messing with classic movies and leave them alone and let them be the classics they are. I would be willing to bet anything that if they did do a sequel (even with Michael Keaton) that it would SUCK BIG TIME. As most sequels do! They already made that mistake with so many other classic movies… Dumb and Dumber was another one. The original will always forever be one of the greatest comedies of all time, it helped put Jim Carrey on the map and made him a huge star. But they mistakenly made a sequel 20 years later in 2014 and it was a DISASTER! It was a complete slap in the face to the original 1994 film. Jim Carrey said that it was solely for the fans, but it was terrible. It never should’ve been made. So yes, I agree a Beetlejuice sequel would be totally unnecessary

Always appreciated 2 factors of foreshadowing in this film, one obvious and the other more apparent with the passage of time. 1) The small ornament adorning Beetlejuice's carousel hat is Jack Skellington, who we would officially meet several years later in THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. 2) A more sadder aspect that is pretty much eye of the beholder territory. When the Maitlands encounter the room of lost souls, the events of 9/11 made me see the film in a different light. Granted, this film wasn't predicting the Twin Towers being destroyed. Just the idea that a person being obliterated in such a senseless act, and having their soul being in limbo is a creepy concept. Seeing the lost souls constantly rising, in future viewings, made me think of that sad day. To know that Tim Burton had this visual sense of the hereafter, albeit fictitious, always amazed me as I got older.

Have you read the "Batman '89" comic? It's written by Sam Hamm, who was the screenwriter for Batman (1989); and as a sequel to Batman Returns, it gives us the Burtonverse versions of Two-Face and Robin. There's also a sequel comic (also by Sam Hamm) featuring Burtonverse versions of Scarecrow and (I think) Harley Quinn called "Batman '89: Echoes", and an interquel novel called "Batman: Resurrections" that takes place between Batman and Returns shortly after the Joker's demise that's coming out on November 5th. So, even though Keaton's Batman probably isn't going to be in future movies, the spotlight is definitely still focused on him.

This is one of my favorite comedies. As a kid my parents let me and my younger sister watch and we watched the hell out of it and even loved the cartoon series. Of course like Ghostbusters, I got older, rewatched them and got SO many of the jokes that went over my head as a kid.

Beetlejuice is one of those movies you can see a hundred and sixty seven times and keeps getting funnier every single time you see it. Along with the cartoon series as well.

Yes, Beetlejuice is a classic movie that just gets better with time. But I Disagree about the animated series… it was corny as hell. As are most cartoon shows created from feature films. Another example are the animated shows from the Jim Carrey movies… Ace Ventura cartoon and the Mask cartoon. The Mask cartoon wasn’t bad, I guess. But the Ace Ventura one was corny, they even made a Dumb and Dumber cartoon show and it was so bad that it only lasted 1 season, if even that

4:21 I guess Roger never saw The Money Pit from 1986. That's basically the same premise.

I dropped the channel after I realized how much I hated Untitled Review Show, but I still like to check in on NC. At this point I enjoy Critic more than Doug himself.
