I would have recommended putting a small gap or insulation between the battery BMS and the 18650 batteries. I have a similar BMS, and when the balancing mode is being activated, the resistors heat up a lot. It would be wise if such heat source isn’t in direct contact with the batteries itself.
@Tonyplat982 жыл бұрын
Yeah there's a few mistakes he made in making this pack but overall it's a good DIY project for the hobbyist. BMS does heat up especially when charging and balancing the cells those can get very toasty it being right up against the cells is not a good idea.

i agree. A bekalite/hylam/teflon piece of 2 mm thickness will do the job. it does not get heated up at all.

Nice build, but it's not actually 70,200mAh. It would be 70,200mAh if you used them all in series (3.7V 70200mAh, 259.74Wh). However, since you're using a 3S9P pack (3 in series, 9 in parallel for 12.6V) you only have 9*2600 = 23,400mAh capacity, but the energy is the same (11.1V 23400mAh is also 259.74Wh). So might be a good idea to use Wh instead of Ah with multiple cells in series.
@macauleyc642 жыл бұрын
All in parallel when you quote "70,200mAh if you use them all in series" it's probably why they sell ebike/escooter batteries with 100,000mAh when there about 10aH because the translator doesn't know the difference and not done his research
@kongmeurn38 Жыл бұрын
Doesn't connecting it in parallel give it more current thus more Wh too? If they were all connected in series you would need a bigger BMS and it will have a overvoltage for that board. Learn more about batteries and how they multiply.

between the bms and the batteries use a thicker cable, in the worst case you could start a fire by consuming too much amperage, it would also add a bit of dissipation to the BMS, it can get quite hot

It looks like a nice build Great Job, but I’m just a beginner and maybe that’s why even if I slow it down or pause your not making it easy to see how your wiring the build I mean it’s obvious you know what you’re doing but I thought you was sharing the build. I want to try the build but don’t want to get stuck at the end. Plus you didn’t even mention the charging plug you used at the end nor is it in the supply list.

You know, with projects like these, I've wondered about some box designs for where maybe you could hot swap out the battery cells by the sets. instead of hard gluing them. Just kinda like they were set in like AA batteries. Especially when using older cells like that. It'd be sort of a battery case then, where you take segments to check into which need changing after a time by the line, or by the block from time to time. So that way you are making use of the case longer than the cells. I realize it would mean making a bigger brick box, but that would simply be the exchange, and lower a bit of the risk of cell heating.

Hahaha. not a 70200mAh. This is 3 series x 9 parallel power bank. (3 batteries in series x 4.2V per cell = 12.6V) (9 batteries in parallel x 2600mAh per cell = 23,400mAh capacity)
@GreenPlanet305 ай бұрын
he should have written capacity in Wh
@dimitriszoitsoudis31254 ай бұрын
I doesnt matter how he connected the batteries since he is using a module that converts the output to 5v.
@SSSKUTER4 ай бұрын
this is why i don't like measuring capacity in Ah. He got the 70,2Ah value because he just added all the capacities together all of the manufacturers do it just for marketing if you calculated the capacity in Wh the value would stay the same no matter how he connected it. if you calculate the capacity of the power bank he made in Wh you would get 252,72Wh (3.6x2.6x27) which is still a lot imo
@LexiAi-v8z3 ай бұрын
You don't need 12 v to charge a phone you just need 5v , the rest of the voltage also adds to the capacity with conversion losses. What you're saying is true if you use it only as a 12v battery.
@LexiAi-v8z3 ай бұрын
By your calculations 23000 mah x 12v ÷ 1000 = 276 wh (actual capacity) Now for 5v , 276wh ÷ 5v = 55 Ah or 55000 mah capacity.

This 70200mah written in the title is incorrect, I know that there are people who will say "it's equivalent" well, then use the universal unit for battery capacity equivalence (Wh) which in the case of this battery is 260Wh, it doesn't matter if it was mounted 1s27p or 3s9p would be valid for both cases, but not mah that each case has its capacity
@racexine2 жыл бұрын
Those batteries are labeled in mAh in battery capacity, 2600 mAh each to be precise. Try buying 26650 lithium-ion batteries and see if there is a Wh label there.
@WolferAlpha2 жыл бұрын
@@racexine to see the wh, just multiply 3.7 by the capacity in mah per battery, in the case of the battery in the video it is 11.1 x 23.4. Always use nominal voltage
@racexine2 жыл бұрын
@@WolferAlpha I know that. I'm just saying that mAh is the standard labeling when you're buying li-ion batteries, so the title of the video is not actually wrong.
@WolferAlpha2 жыл бұрын
@@racexine so explain to me how mah is added when connected in series, Wh are added regardless of the connection and mah only when connected in parallel, so yes, it is wrong
@racexine2 жыл бұрын
@@WolferAlpha It is added when you're using a charge controller. Try discharging 2 pairs of similar batteries at the same time, 1 in series and 1 in parallel. Use a charge controller and limit the setting to 5 v 1Amp. I'll tell you, they'll both lose their juice almost at the same time.
