Agreed that show and tell is not great in cube, but I feel like the resistance towards it is perhaps a bit overblown. For example, i find it hard to believe that show in tell into Emrakul “is not good enough” most of the time. A good portion of decks just can never beat a show and tell>emrakul and nearly all other decks will have to have a very specific board state and/or hand to beat it.

Agreed, and also the risk factor that the opponent might also be a sneak/reanimator deck isn't a good enough reason to start with it in the side either. There are tons of other archetypes so if you see another big creature deck you can just side Show out after game 1.

Yea it’s honestly kind of annoying how much youtubers hate on that card. Especially lsv literally always brings it up. I get that it’s not a high pick if you’re “super pro” but it’s obviously fine in some matchups. It’s not like he isn’t taking huge risks with other cards in vintage cube… he just doesn’t like it because it’s cool to hate on it

Try it sometime. It’s really quite bad- obviously you can get punished pretty severely by an opposing sneak/Reanimator deck, but even other decks have a bunch of cards that can give you trouble- mono green is liable to have their own Eldrazi, mono white often is packing Solitude and Palace Jailer which are both massive blowouts, blue control decks often have Sower of Temptation, Storm has engine cards like Bolas’s Citadel, and even decks like mono red where it seems like you would be in the clear can often kill you on the crack back after putting in something like a Hellrider. It can work, but it’s insanely risky. There’s no reason to take that kind of risk when other ways of cheating in creatures get you the same benefit.

Clayton Newlon of course it’s liable to get blown out in very specific contexts and a decent portion of decks will have a few cards in their 40 that can answer an emrakul off of show and tell, but I think the EV of show+emrakul is extremely high, especially when the pilot plays situationally. The real downside of show+emrakul is not the lack of EV when executing the combo imo. The downside is that most decks can’t reliably execute the combo to justify the deckbuilding cost. Sneak and through the breach, on the other hand, can win games on the spot with a greater range of creature targets than show and tell can. I don’t take show and tell highly, but I just don’t buy this idea that the combo of show and tell plus emrakul in a vacuum is not a strong play in vintage cube

I think in this draft, in pack 1 Show and Tell would be a bad pick. By pack 3 I think it has become a good pick, possibly better than through the breach. The deck has a lot of hand disruption to clear the way for Show and Tell.

@@maxf2417 At the time you mentioned, the card left in his hand is an Emrakul. Mana Crypt is in play. Since Evoke is casting a spell for alternativ mana costs, he can play Gief exiling Hymn to Tourach triggering Hullbreaker Horror. Hullbreaker can target his Mana Crypt. He plays Mana Crypt, triggering Hullbreaker. He gets two mana and there was my mistake. Since Hullbreaker is a cast trigger, the Mana Crypt is not in play, when the trigger is going onto the stack. Therefore it does not work.

drafting that crypt for a reanimator deck was a bad choice as was not bringing in the titan against the lands deck. Not a great reanimator deck in general. LSV cube drafts are always a joy to watch, but this one was kind of a trainwreck...at least as far as the archetype goes.

Hilarious that you try to make all these smart plays and if you just went for the power moves you win. Cracks me up inside. This is why I don’t give much credence to excessive insight plays. It’s more times then not, just biting you in the ace.
