Two new train cars enter service on Bukit Panjang LRT, entire fleet to be renewed by 2026

Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said Bukit Panjang LRT is expected to become more reliable, with new train cars added. Two are already up and running, with the aim to upgrade the entire fleet of the 25-year-old line by 2026. New features include LCD monitors that display routes clearly, energy-saving LED lights and an upgraded air-con system. The new train cars will also be fitted with systems and sensors to better monitor and detect faults. This complements efforts to renew the ageing BPLRT system, like upgrading the operations control centre and power supply system. Claudia Lim reports.

I stay in Punggol and I feel the buses do a better job because it directly infront of my house with the lrt we have to walk some more so why not just scrapped it and make bus longer or taller

It's a shame there aren't more LRT lines in Singapore. They are such an interesting addition to the urban landscape. Quiet and reliable, too.

@@FakeHaqimy I'm aware of that video, and heartily disagree with its conclusions. Much of it is simply personal opinion. It also completely ignores the intangible benefits of having an LRT system. The video also admitted that many of the problems it brought up were teething problems unique to the BP LRT, and not the Sengkang and Punggol LRTs.

LRT is faster than buses. If they can maintain it well without breakdowns, it is certainly a good option.

I live in maxwell so i could just take the Thomson east coast line change at stevens station and i will take the downtown line to bukit panjang and change to bukit panjang lrt in there.

Just realized that the old trains are made in the USA. No wonder always break down. Probably the worst option to get trains from. US trains are horrible. Europe/China/Japan trains are far better. BP LRT is literally the worst line in SG. Hopefully these new ones made in China are better.
