Nicely done, so refreshing to find an informative vid with no cheesy music in the back ground.

What a great video! I wish I had a lathe, so I could mill something like this myself. I have a cheap Harbor Freight 20 ton press, I've made a few helpful modifications to, but really need some kind of dies to attach to the ram. My grandfather was a machinist, and passed in 2020, and I think of him any time I'm working with metal. Thanks for the helpful videos, stay safe, and keep it up!

Wow! I just ordered a new shop press, a Jet 15t to replace a super cheap work horse I have had for years. I made some tooling but your video was inspiring and concise. I’ll be watching all your others. Thank you for your efforts!! Rick, asheville nc

But if there is another way to make some tools for your press I'm shire your going to figure it out. I just got a used 20 ton shop press from a older gentleman that was no longer using his. I have to make many tool's adapters to press stuff out. You can use different size sockets to fit in between each other, or pips, many different solid steel shapes and sizes that will fit negative and positive out of metal. If you have a torch you can cut stuff out with a torch but save the piece you cut the shape out of fix up the negative so the positive can fit in the negative. Put a piece of sheet metal and the press will press down on the thick metal you made it will press down in the positive into the negative the sheet metal will take it's sharp. When I get my press up and running ima make some video's of the adapters that I made for the press. I already have a few made from what I used to put in the vice. Having a press now open up a whole lot of doors for my imagination.

i didnt know you can bend metal stock in the press with one of those plate notches. nice to learn something new once in a while.

I am glad I found your channel. Your videos are full of ideas! Great stuff. Thanks! By the way I get the sense you are up in B.C. Is that correct? I'm in Western Washington State. Keep the ideas coming, stay healthy and stay safe!

maybe a plastic rod to grease fill bearings in blind holes to pop them out?

Cool idea. I will be implementing some of these in my own kit. What material is easily machined and yet hard enough to be a press tool?
@troyhodulik5542 Жыл бұрын
4140 Pre-hard would work well. There are others as well: A2, M1, etc

Were you able to bend the stock all the way to 90 degrees with the V chisel tool? If it was a few degrees shy of 90, the tooling can be adjusted so that it will spring back to 90 after pressing.
@ChannelofRichPierik4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The angle was cut at less than 90 degrees to alllow for spring back. Cheers.

That was great thanks. One thing is that when you bend the 1/2" bracket I can't understand "and the reading on the press now is 4 tonnes". Is that just 4 tonnes or something else?
@ChannelofRichPierik Жыл бұрын
Yes. 4 tonnes... :) Cheers.

Did you add the little wire brush to your bandsaw, what does it do?
@ChannelofRichPierik4 жыл бұрын
Hi. The saw came with it. I guess it is an attempt to remove swarf prior to the blade contacting the drive wheel. It does not seem to be very effective....

What is the specs on the material you used? Where they heat treated?
@ChannelofRichPierik4 жыл бұрын
Hi William. These low use examples are made from 1018 mild steel. The chisel and flanging tools would benefit from a higher carbon content and heat treating. I will make a new set, if I find myself using them alot. The holder is made of an unknown type. Shaft material picked up from the local salvage. When I visit I carry a file, and if the file can bite in, then I know my lathe can handle it.

One more question -- what did you use to blue the tooling you made?
@ChannelofRichPierik4 жыл бұрын
Hi. I didn't blue the tooling. They have a brushed finish from the wire wheel, and some oil. Cheers.
@michaelsemenchuk30562 жыл бұрын
@@ChannelofRichPierik you can heat the tooling up and drop them in used motor oil. It put a nice dark coating that keeps some rust from forming on the metal.
