Sonic Lost World[a] is a 2013 action-adventure platform video game developed by Sonic Team. It is part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and was released in October 2013 for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in PAL regions by Nintendo and by Sega in North America and Japan. A port for Microsoft Windows was later released in November 2015.
Lost World focuses on the efforts of Sonic the Hedgehog to stop the Deadly Six, an alien tribe that serves as the game's main antagonists, as they seek to siphon energy from the Lost Hex, the game's setting. Sonic and his long-time sidekick Tails must team up with Doctor Eggman, normally their enemy, to stop the Deadly Six, leading to conflicts among the three parties. While the gameplay is typical of the Sonic series in some ways, it adds parkour mechanics and features largely cylindrical level design with an emphasis on alternate pathways. The game also features the Wisp creatures from Sonic Colors as power-ups.
The game began development shortly after the 2010 release of Sonic Colors. It was designed to be streamlined and fluid in movement and design, using tube-like level design and a simple, bright color scheme. The game received mixed reviews upon release; its controls and the Deadly Six were frequently criticized, but its visuals and audio were seen positively. Downloadable content was released both alongside and after the game's release, adding features such as additional levels and a new type of Wisp power.

Played this game for the first time this year. Yeah, not great. It has some good moments but the first playthrough is pretty rough. The game only gets fun when you learn how to circumvent all the issues. There are elements I like about the game though, having a hard mode is nice, I wish the console games did that. I also felt like the parkour was actually handled a lot better in this version.

Mostly agreed a few levels are stupid tough your first time around but this game has a lot of speed run and replay potential that the Wii U version didn’t it was fun to find every path or skip possible (plus it was the only online thing I could get working on my 3ds)

I know that in some levels you wants to stop playing. I felt the same, but the satisfaction that I had when I completed the game was great. In my opinion, is a great game if you are patient and have time to complete it.

This game is one of the biggest tragedies ever in Sonic. Like genuinely, I love how sonic controls in this game, I love how his speed feels, how his jump feels, how the parkour is so fluid and easy to perform and that the 1st world has linear stages that are still open and wide and allowing for different pathways. I got such good vibes from the first world....but the rest of the game is just such garbage. So many awful controlling gimmicks, so many boring puzzles, so many needless combat sections of you homing attack the same enemies again and again and again. It's such a shame, this had the potential to be one of the best 3D sonic games ever imo but man did they mess it up hard

Basically everything you said in this video is true, and that's why this is one of the most fun speed games I've ever played. Don't like using the bs gimmicks? Find routes to use them less or avoid them entirely! I put way too much time on my any% speedrun for this game but it was worth it. Seriously, Silent Forest Zone 1 is probably the best example of going from blah to a fun challenge once you master it.

I never had a problem with the special stages. I also found a lot of cool strats to speed up the longer non linear levels. And I didn't find the 2d or linear levels all that bad. Idk I see why people wouldn't like it but I find it fun

Lost World isn't bad at all. Especially the 3DS version. In many ways it even improves the Wii U version like making a lot of the bosses harder (especially the final one), has its own Wisps, original levels, a whole hard mode, and special stages. Although I do agree that the special stages in the 3DS version are abysmal and not fun at all. The story and gameplay are both very well done, as well as the worlds even though most level themes are the typical Mario world themes. They still have some cool and different levels regardless. This game definitely shouldn't have stayed lost. Btw, that dumb phrase is extremely unoriginal. If you're gonna insult the game, actually come up with something better.

the only thing i hate about this game is sonics movement when in 3d stages. using the thumb-disk thingy to move him is just odd to me and how sonic moves a tad bit too fast for my comfort zone just rubs me the wrong way. Still a very decent game, i'll probably 100% it soon

When I got to the part where you have to push Snowballs around I almost stopped playing immediately. A shame because I managed to get all Chaos Emeralds too but I just didn't care after that and by the time I finished this game I was just relieved.

While I do admit this game has serious issues I found that after excessively playing it there was fun to be had. I suppose this game was was designed with an arcade experience in mind where you get better each time you play it but for some I can see the excessive reliance on the Wisp a big turnoff.

The 2D stages were often the worst in my opinion. As a lot of them last way too long The purple worms, blowfish robots, and turtle tanks often take way too long to kill without the wisps

I like the inclusion of the spinners and the red rings, and yeah more focus on parkour is awesome as opposed to wii u. I may not like it better than the wii u version but after the first 3 worlds and dealing with the stiff air movement I think I might like it better on 3ds if I get the chance to set it up on official hardware again

Dimps really should be allowed to make console Sonic games as interim titles between the Sonic Team developed games, especially considering the long gaps between them now. Dimps' output wasn't perfect, but neither is Sonic Team's, and being free of the limitations of being the handheld/2D B team could allow them to stretch their legs and produce better products.

The games length is as long as Sonic 2 once you're good at it. Homing attack is very easy to use. Special Stages, while gimmicky, are easy as hell because they are gimmicky, and Super Sonic breaks the game in half and allows you to skip sequences.

I'm personally alright with Lost World in general, especially this version. Lost World for the 3DS was my first Sonic game and I had a decent time playing for the most part. The Special Stages are the only complaint that I have about this port of Lost World.

Great review. I played this game a few years ago basically knowing nothing about it besides it might be better than it was on Wii U and I enjoyed the Wii U version so I played it. The controls are better and super sonic is better that’s basically it, all the wisps suck besides the lightning one but I think the perfect way to describe how bad the game is is Zone 5 Act 2. One second your on the rails going fast and then one second your stopping to fight super slow enemies. Feels like a different game lol

Just the title itself brings me bad memories. I hate this game. It's so pointlessly frustrating to play. The first world was the only fun one to play. What I hate the most is how it shoves Wisps up your throath. You want to platform just as Sonic or Super Sonic? Too bad here use this fucking Wisp to progress.

Sonic Lost World 3DS deserves the hate that the Wii U version got, and the Wii U version deserves more credit. It’s among the worst Sonic games ever. Sonic Boom may have been broken and boring, but this game is hellishly frustrating. Lost World 3DS is in my opinion the second worst Sonic game. The only one that beats it is 06 for it being broken like Boom and frustrating like Lost World 3DS.

They made lots of interesting decisions that leave you thinking what works and what doesn't. The RC veichles work beautifully, but puzzles that require you to push a weight into a button don't. Drill in 2D is good, while in 3D, it sucks. That's really cool for someone that would want to imagine or even create another version of this game that keeps the stuff that works, and removes/fixes the stuff that doesn't. We do have the HD version on PC, we could make mods that change stuff, I assume. But, for what it's worth, it's a fun game, crud, I actually got addicted to it.
