The calling of governor Fubara a neophyte does not in substance discredit him because as a matter of fact he is the new governor of Rivers State. Literally neophyte means a “newcomer” or “beginner.” In these circumstances it is important to note that age and wisdom do give perspective to the choice and direction the individual decides to reflect amidst the options before him. Where governor Fubara prefers the path of wisdom, “Solomon-ish” way, to the paths of the old ways, “methuselah-ish” ways of just being old, then calling him neophyte does not diminish his preference for the path of wisdom in public interest. The issue is do Rivers People prefer to follow a boy with wisdom rather than follow a master sheepishly without the application of wisdom or common sense if you like. Rivers People should be clear about their choices and preferences in the circumstances. I think that the Rivers People are better off with a “neophyte” endowed with wisdom than a “methuselah” that is void of common sense.
